Thank you for he reply; I use a BT router and the connection was smooth at 2.4... as for switching channels I do not know how to do that so if you could reply with a method that would be great. Thank you.

You'll have to look up your specific router manual to find how to change its wifi channels. there's several BT routers.
- YeetmeisterFeb 11, 2020AspirantOk thank you: as for the speeds, before the outage I did around 30-40mbps down and 10-15up but now I do 5-15down 3-8up I also believe my router (and the routers in my area) are all on the same channels as before.

What speeds do you get directly from the router over 2.4ghz? Not from the extender.
this is key. the extender can't perform faster than the router is because the routers wireless is what the extender is running off. If something happened to the router to cause a lowered speed or a changed channel to a more congested channel, then it impacts the extender as well.
Its like a garden hose. it doesn't matter what type of end you put on the hose if someone is standing on the hose, its still going to come out in a trickle. Make sure there aren't any issues with the router's performance first. Test the routers 2.4ghz speed where the extender is. If its the same speed that the extender is getting, its because of the router.
