I have a question about wifi extenders in general, if you have one setup as a wifi extender and later on plug an ethernet cable into it from the router will it become an access point instantly or does it need to be factory reset and set up as an access point?

You'd want to re-run setup.
Current setup: CM2000-> RBE973S-> Trendnet TEG-S380-> GS716T-> pi-hole
also in AP setup: RAXE500->EAX80
1.4gig download/100mbps upload from Xfinity
