R7000 router with a DD-WRT firmware installed. Will my Nighthawk WiFi Range Extender EX7000 work?

I owned a Netgear Night Hawk AC 1900 (R7000) Router & a Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi Range Extender Model EX7000. My range extender is working great. Now, I wanted to flash my R7000 router with a DD-WRT firmware so I can install a VPN in my R7000 router. Will my Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi Range Extender Model EX7000 still work or still compatible with the R7000 router now flashed with a DD-WRT firmware and with a Private-Internet-Access (PIA) VPN installed? Please advice. Thank you.

Yes, it should work. There's nothing proprietary about the way the EX7000 connects to a router.
