Router to extender light green at 75' away, client light switching green and red; Client 15' away

The extender worked well for some time but then it kept dropping the connection with the client.  Going from green to red coincides with when connection is dropped.  I expected to get no light if there was no connection.  Any clues?  I can't handle the technical end but I can follow logic and directions pretty well.

Which router and extender are you using? Are they both running latest firmware?
