Unable to get extender working

Was having intermittent problems connecting - kept saying connected but no internet, client link led was red.
Logged on to IP address and was able to connect - screen said that an update was available - I started the update process. Since then I haven't been able to connect.
When I plug the extender in now the Power LED starts amber and then blinks green. If I press the WPS button and try to connect to my Virgin Media Hub 3.0 nothing happens - no more lights on the extender, and the power light continues to blink green. Have tried doing factory reset but no change.

You might have corrupted the firmware duing the update. You can try recovering it via tftp or nmrpflash
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
