Upgrade or replace Nighthawk R7000?

I have an R7000 and a PLW1010 Extender. I hate having additional wifi signals and the switching that is required when I move between rooms.
Unless there's a way to reconfigure the PLW1010 to be a Mesh style access point, it seems I have two choices to move to a Mesh network (which I assume, perhaps incorrectly, will be easier and faster). I don't necessarily need the powerline option. The signal from downstairs just barely makes it upstairs and would reach a mesh extender.
AC1900, AC2200 or X4S (no idea what the diff is)
Change the whole setup to ORBI or other.
What makes the most sense?

The lack of support on this forum really sucks.
I think my move is to replace this with another brand and never buy a netgear product again.
