Using EAX80 as a satellite for MR80 Mesh system with Daisy chain.

Using EAX80 as a satellite for MR80 Mesh system with Daisy chain.

I have just upgraded my wifi system to the MK83 Mesh from the EAX80. But I don't want to get rid of the good EAX80 because the solid signal it brings to my devices. However, my issue is about Homekits devices, whenever I set up the EAX80 as an Access Point router with the same SSID to the MK83 Mesh, my Homekits stops working.

Please advise!

You're running it in access point mode?

Does it work fine if you leave it in extender mode (not hardwired in)?

Yes i ran it with wired as an access point using the same SSIDs and password with my Mesh system and it stops my Homekit devices. I wired it directly because I wanted a good speed in every room. I'll definitely try the extender mode today when I got home from work. My question is that could the extender mode work when it is wired?

No. If its in extender mode, it shouldn't be hardwired back to the main router. That's only in access point mode.

If you left it in access point mode, does it work with a different ssid?
Also, what modem/gateway is the MK system connected to?

Firmware on the MK system and the EAX80?

If I left in in access point mode, it works perfectly under different SSID. But I want to use the same SSID because I want my mobile devices have the seamless connection without manually switching to get the strongest signals.

My current set ups:

AT&T Gateway (BGW210-700)

MK83 System wired to the Gateway with 2 backhaul wired satellites

EAX80 wired to the MK83's satellite

I'm not sure what is the firmware of the EAX80 and MK83 but it is up-to-date last night with no update available.

Is the gateway still in router mode?

Or is the MK system in access point mode?

Because those are both routers and cascading routers puts you in a double nat.

Also, the EAX80 is a mesh extender, but the mesh aspect only works in extender mode. In AP mode, the roaming protocols aren't active so devices will be sticky. It won't be an efficient part of your mesh and could make it worse.

I set the AT&T router's SSID different with the MK83's SSID so I wont connect any devices to the AT&T router. All devices exclusively connected to the MK83 only. Or is there a way to turn off wifi signal from AT&T router? I never think of that solution until now.

What is your suggestion in my scenario?

I'd put the att box in passthrough mode. that'll fix the double nat issue.

so pass thru mode for AT&T gateway and Extender Mode for EAX80?

I'll try it tonight!

I'd first try the passthrough mode, if that doesn't help, then try the extender mode on the EAX.

I'm wondering if you're cascading routers is causing the issue
