Using r7800 with wired mesh extender
I currently have a r7800 and wanted to extend with a mesh extender. I've used a regular extender in the past, but got rid of it when streaming apps like facetime freeze for a few seconds every time my device switched networks/APs. Mesh seems like the right tech to mitigate that. The r7800 is on the second floor and its the basement with terrible connectivity. I have gigabit ethernet already available down there and I wanted to use it for the backhaul of the mesh extender.
A few questions:
Something like the EX7700 supports 802.11k, but does my r7800 need to support that in order for it work? I read that iOS devices support it now, but its not clear if all network radios need to support it in order to hand-off devices appropriately. I'm unsure if a I have to replace the r7800 in order to take full advantage fo the 802.11k features.
Install instructions for various mesh extenders aren't detailed; can I just plug it into my wired gigabit in the basement and go through the setup and have it all work? (with the mesh connectivity working and backhaul on wired?). The r7800 is only dual band, so if I had to go wireless backhaul for 802.11k to work, will that slow things down?
