WN2000RPT security internet connection problem

First post - I hope this is the right section of the netgear forum!

I have a new WN2000RPT range extender that I am trying to use with my existing network. My existing router is a Netgear DG834PN. The computer I am trying to connect with is a Windows 7 x64 based laptop.

The problem I am having is that if my wireless network has security enabled (WEP, WPA or WPA2) I cannot access the internet through the WN2000RPT extender. If I disable security on my router, I can connect through the WN2000RPT just fine. I even did this and updatwed the firmware on the WN2000RPT just in case this was the problem.

I have tried everything I can think of.

If I have WPA security on, and try connecting to the 'netgear-EXT' wireless network, the setup browser initiates and finds all the neighbourhood wireless networks. I select my home wireless network ('home') and click 'continue'. It detects that it has WPA security and asks me to enter the password, which I do. I then click continue, but the wizzard goes no further, and I still have no internet access. I have tried this with WPA2 and WEP security (after of course changing it on my router and testing an internet connection still works by connecting through the router alone), and neither work. If I disable security on my router and then run through the netgear-EXT wizard, everything works fine! Obviously, I can't have an unsecured wireless network though!

Any ideas what I should try? I'm really pulling my hair out here. All signal stregths are strong by the way: 80% or so between the WN2000RPT and the router. When I connect with no security, the connection icon is coloured green.

Please help.
