WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
I have searched all over the net and have not seen a real good answer on this. I have a WN3000RP that works fine and I use it for several devices with no problem and have for a year. I currently added a new laptop and tried to connect via the extender. It will come up with limited acctivity and will not allow me to connect to internet. After running the "fixit" option it shows that it has an invalid ip address. If I bypass the extender and connect straight to the low strength router, no problem connects with the expected slow speed. I have tried "forget the network" on both house and house_ext network and retried connection. I have reset factory settings on extender and reconfiged as well as a total reboot. If I go to the extender config manager I can see that the laptop MAC but no IP was issued. Currently I am trying it with no security so as not to add to my problems. I live way out in the country so wifi security temporarily being off is not a problem.
Thanks in advance.

Re: WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
No replies? I have the same issue: a WN3000RP extender that works fine with older laptop, two iPads, Macbook and more. But my new Dell XPS15 running Win 8.1 only gets a limited connection (however it gets a full connection quickly to the router - but only 1 bar in my home office, so I want a better connection, hence the extender). The old laptop was a Dell E5520 running Win 7 and that still connects fine from the same desk getting 5 bars from the extender.
I have updated the firmware on the extender. I have tried all security modes including no security. I have turned off McAfee anti-virus. Netgear support wanted $139 for support for a $60 item (two years old now) but did offer the suggestion about changing security mode.
Any other suggestions - please ...

Re: WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
Hi awags, Bellwood,
Thanks for writing in your issues.
Can you please confirm which brand of WiFi Adapter is used in your laptop?
Also, which driver version is it running? Is it the latest firmware?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
NhanN

Re: WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
Thanks for the response. The WiFi Adapter is a Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac (Broadcom) with driver version 6.30.223.259 and the brand new laptop has been completely updated via Windows Update and Dell Update so I would imagine this is the latest driver version. There is a very long list of properties under the Advanced tab of the Device Manager for this device but all remain at the settings when the computer.was delivered.

Re: WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
Interesting. After one month with this issue, last night the laptop connected to the extender (all on its own) and gave me fast (relatively - we are talking satellite here) connectivity. BUT that was a once off. I powerered down last night, and now today it behaves as always - it flashes "Connected" briefly for the _EXT source, then changes to "Limited". I am back to using the weak, one-bar, slow connection to the main router.
Does that help anyone work out what is happening?
Thanks
Bellwood

Re: WN3000RP Will not connect with New Laptop
Hi Bellwood,
Which router are you connecting to your extender? How is the extender performance when placed near the router?
