WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

I can't quite get this thing working, I get "can't connect to the internet".
Here's my setup:
Router WNDR3400

Router -> wireless -> PC
Router -> wireless -> WN3000RP -> wireless -> iPad

Via the PC I can look at the router and see the mac addy of the WN3000RP on it's connected to page.
Via the PC I can also access the WN3000RP and see the mac addy of the iPad on it's connected to page.

The iPad shows connected but can't get to the internet.
The iPad also won't connect to the WN3000RP via www.mywifiext.net.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

No luck, tried google 8.8.8.4 and 8.8.4.4.
I even tried the my.google.com addy 209.191.108.146.
I'm thinking it's something in the router blocking it but can't figure out what else.
Guess I need to start disabling stuff till it works then figure out how to make it right.

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

I even turned on DMZ on the addy the extender is on 10.0.0.5, as I understand it should let everything through.
I'm starting to think it's in the extender.

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

DMZ will do nothing in this case for extender

Thanks, I realized that when the router changed the extender address to 10.0.0.6.

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

extender should remain the same as our primary LAN subnet

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

If I understand correctly I have IP addresses 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.15 allocated for use. The extender is on 10.0.0.5.

Thanks for helping a networking newbe.

I don't know the difference between WLAN and LAN.

I was talking to the extender via the router link. (Pc->router->extender)
On this latest attempt I'm unable to access the extender directly via the iPad through www.mywifiext.net although the signal shows up strong.
In previous attempts I remember I was able to link via mywifiext but not now.

Maybe another factory reset is in order and try again?

BTW I also tried installing via the wired link.

Thanks

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

WLAN- WIRELESS
LAN - commonly connected with ethernet cable.

Ok, since I was linked via wireless on both sides (router->extender and extender->iPad) that's why LAN showed link down, got it!

I'll try factory reset tonight (or maybe tomorrow night) and go through it again. I'll first try the simple WPA method others have had no problems with (although I tried it before that way before). If no luck I'll do manual with a wired link to a pc.

Thanks

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

Got it working!!!

Seems that manually entering the IP info did it even though it was still at the same local IP. There is obviously more going on internally that we know but it works, that's all that matters.

Thanks for your patience, knowledge and time, I really appreciate it!

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

Hi sorry for bringing this thread up again.

I am having a similar issue and I can't seem to solve it.

I am going from my router -> wireless -> 3000rp -> wireless -> laptop

On a very very rare occasion (by pulling the extender from the plug and plug in back in) I would be able to access mywifiext.net for about 5 seconds.

On my laptop, it always show up as unidentified network. I am pretty much stuck.

With a few chance of getting into the extender, I managed (or I think I did) to change to static IP 10.0.0.11 subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway/DNS 10.0.0.1 (router IP).
I tried changing my laptop IP setting to IP10.0.0.101 (tried 10.0.0.13) subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway/DNS 10.0.0.1. I still get the same unidentified network.

I did tried with LAN connecting to my laptop, still unidentified network. I also tried this on my other laptop, still the same result.

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks,
Satapon W

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

Can you access the extender through the router link. via 10.0.0.11?

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

no I can't. It seems like I can access the extender when the windows was identifying the network. Once it changes to "Unidentified Network", I can't access it at all.

I am using Windows 7 (x86 and x64) on both laptops. WPA2-AES, router WNDR3700.

Re: WN3000RP - so close but no cigar

update... I tried resetting the extender. I am able to connect to the extender during the original process (ie. not setup to connect to my router yet).

I can manually connect the extender to my router (without going to the smart wizard), and still get access to the extender. However, the IP of the extender doesn't seem to change (still 192.168.1.250 and Gateway/DNS 0.0.0.0) hence not getting the internet.

Once I change the extender IP address to 10.0.0.11/255.255.255.0/10.0.0.1, it becomes "unidentified network" again.

I tried changing the gateway/dns to 192.168.0.1 (my internet provider's router IP) and still doesn't work.

I don't know what to do now.

Please help

192.x.x is not internet routable IP so that is LAN subnet for private.
