Wi-Fi Range Extender EX6120 -- Extender AND/OR Repeater ???
This unit is sold on Amazon as a "Extender AND a Repeater". However nowhere in the manual I find any references to any repeater function.ZERO
In fact the device appears SOLELY a EXTENDER.That is it will take the original network and rebroadcast it to another (itself created) WIFI network under some NEW network name (SSDI). This is regardless whether the source of was internet was router's WIFI or or a physical ethernet connection from router to EX6120.
The true REPEATER, on the other hand, repeats the original network, amplifies it and rebroadcast it under the SAME SSID (network name). That makes is easy for lwork arge Alexa installation.
Thus NETGEAR is guilty here of grossly misrepresenting their device, and on that basis I will be returning it and upgrading to some modern mesh solution.

You can set it with the same ssid as your router. In no way are you obligated to run it with a different ssid.
Your choice.
