Wireless configuration failures
I would like to share my experience trying to configure a Netgear XAVN2001v2.
At first, when I checked from Netgear website, I was directed to download the Powerline Utility 184.108.40.206. I followed the directions, installed the tool on a Windows 7 PC and connected the Netgear device with an Ethernet cable.
After I the device appeared on the Powerline Utility screen, I tried to set the Wireless configuration settings. Every attempt was failing with a pop-up announcing a generic error. I tried with Device name and LED settings, which failed too. Unexpectedly, I could change the Encryption key, but I am not really sure that the change really applied. Of course I tried multiple times, which made me worry about the product.
After following some Netgear support threads, I realised that I needed the IP address allocated to the Netgear XAVN2001v2 in my LAN. I used my Router admin panel to lookup the connected devices (in my case it was 192.168.1.11)
Then I tried to access the XAVN2001v2 admin panel by pointing my browser to that IP, and used admin and password as credentials to login.
Voila! I managed to update the Wireless security options from Setup/Wireless Settings.
Verdict, I believe the Product manual should direct me to the device Admin panel, not to the Netgear Powerline Utility, which was not working. Also after having successfully updated the Wireless settings, I checked on the Powerline Utility and nothing seemed to be reflected there, so I guess that this tool never managed to connect to my XAVN2001v2 device.
Hope this will help other people and safe them some valuable time
