ac1900 extender causing internet to be slow

Hi, I just recently switched internet providers, and when I got new internet and plugged the extender in, it was making devices in my household lag and the router link is off which is weird because my router and modem are in the other room across from my room. But when I unplug the extender everything goes back to normal with no lag on any devices whatsoever. Can yall help me with this

1. what modem/router did you replace it with? 

2. how did you setup the EX6400? using WPS or using the installation assistant? 

3. what firmware is onthe extender?
