Attempted to connect to netgear firmware update websitet to update my firmware but i get "connection not private". Also stated that websit credentials are not current.
Is the my wifi ext dot net a valid website for firmware update?

You can always manually download the firmware from the netgear website: https://www.netgear.com/support/download/ Yes that is the build in webpage of your extender, where you can configure it. But that is only locally accessible. Your username and password can be captured.
