wifi Extender

I am currently using a NetGear Router (AC1750), Model # R6400v2

The router is located in my basement. The house is 2 story.

I want to add a WiFi Extender, at the opposite end of the house, approx. 40 feet away from router.

What is the best compatible extender to use?

I also need to know if extender should be placed at extreme end of house or half way.

Please help!!

Thanks,

Peter

Re: wifi Extender

there's many types of extenders.

I'm a fan of the triband extenders and I'll explain why.

A normal extender has to recieve and retransmit using the same chip. And it can't do both at once. so it cuts its throughput in half and increases latency.

A triband extender actually has a 3rd band thats reserved just for router----extender communication. You still take a little speed hit but its not even close to the same as running a standard extender.

But they are more expensive. So it comes down to what performance you want.

In terms of placement its usually best to place it in the middle so it has a better signal.
