How to find the router firmvare Version?

How to find the router firmvare Version?

There are notes on this Forum that Netgear has updated "from the WEB" the firmware of some WNR2000v3 routers to the last and necessary version 1.1.2.14 so that the users do NOT need to do any update by themselves. According to these notes the lucky users did establish that the firmware of their routers was the necessary one.

The WNR2000v3 is my router and I would be very happy not to tinker with the router and this important Security upgrade.

But unfortunately being a "computer dummy" I do NOT know and coud NOT find instructions - HOW TO DETERMINE MY ROUTER FIRMWARE VERSION.

Please advise me how to do.

With MANY THANKS

With a wired (Ethernet) to my DELL desktop and Win 10 when a enter the 192.168.1.1. address I get a long list of links to articles by various (some questionable) sources but NOT a place where I can see a request for my user name and pass.

That address is a local one. It is on your network. It is not somewhere out in the Internet.

You should not need to go to 192.168.1.1

Did you try the other links?

http://www.routerlogin.com/

or

http://www.routerlogin.net

Just click them. They are also local addresses, so no risk of nasties. They are Netgear's way of making it "easier" to get your browser to control your router.

Re: How to find the router firmvare Version?

I know this manual is the version 2 manual and you have the version 3 but it is much clear in what you need to do to update the router automatic or manual starts page 113.

http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNR2000V2/WNR2000v2_UM_15JAN2010.pdf

Just make sure you use correct firmware when updating.

Here is the latest firmware update forthe wnr2000v3 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WNR2000v3.aspx#download

If you can login to the router's web interface – you'll need to that to update the firmware – the hardware version is at the top of the page.

The manual for your device is here:

Re: How to find the router firmvare Version?

If using a wired lan cable to connect your computer to the router you will need to use a web browser and go to the ip address 192.168.1.1, you should see a request for your user's name and password they will be whatever you set them to when you set up the router. If router is running with default settings the user's name will be admin and the password will be password.

If you can not remember the user's name and password you my have to reset the router and start from default settings and rest up the router.

If more information is need please review the router log in selection of the above lnks for the manuals they should help some.

Re: How to find the router firmvare Version?

Read page 29 of the manual at the end of the link I gave you.

Point your browser at one of these links:

http://www.routerlogin.com/

or

http://www.routerlogin.net

If they don't work, then the IP address might be an option. Here the usual suspects are:

http://192.168.0.1

or

http://192.168.1.1

You could also try this:

May you try yourself this 192.168.1.1. link and explain why I get a different (if so) result.

With many thanks

Re: How to find the router firmvare Version?

192.168.1.1 is the just the way I perfer to access the router login page since it is standard across a wide range of brands of routers both ways get you the same place on your router.

Re: How to find the router firmvare Version?

I like to keep things as simple as possible. Most users do not know, or care, about different brands. They just want easy access to their controls.

That is why I also suggest using Netgear's desktop genie. Propeller heads may find it frustrating, but used properly it does a good job for mere mortals.
