N600
We received an email stating that we needed to download a firmware update for security. I find this odd and before we did anything, I want to make sure it is legit. I have checked your site and don't see any updates listed that include the N600. Please advise. I would think that any updates would be done automatically.

"N600" is a speed, not a model number. Ever helpful, Netgear
product packaging emphasizes speeds like "Nxxx", but that's not the
model identifier. Look at the label on the device. I'll assume that
"D3600" is correct.

The non-psychics in your audience can't see your e-mail message.
Apparently, Netgear broadcasts these notices to every victim e-mail
address in their records, irregardful of what equipment any particular
victim might have, whether there actually is a firmware update for any
particular model, or, in the cable modem(+router) case, whether the
victim has any ability to install it. And then, the message itself
doesn't say any of that, so the victims tend to believe what it says.
If you've checked the support page for your device, and the latest
firmware is what you alredy have installed, then there's nothing for you
to do.

You might be wrong. And, given the sloppy testing Netgear does on
this stuff, automatically installing any of it might be unwise.
