USB Control Center connection but no printer output

I have a printer connected to the USB port on my WNDR3800 router. I installed the ReadySharePrinter_setup_v1.36 on Windows 8.1 and the Netgear USB control center found my printer off of my router and shows it as connected. Windows 8.1 also found my printer and installed one of its drivers for it. Yet when I try to output anything to the printer it fail with a message from Windows 8.1 saying "Error on MyPrinter etc. the printer could not print." Under no circumstances can I get anything to go to the printer. The printer shows Ready but is clearly not receiving anything to print.
Does anybody have any idea what is wrong ?
The same problem happens when I install the software on another computer running Windows 7. Previously having the printer attached to a USB port on another computer the printing worked fine.
When I look at the printer in the Devices and Printers control panel applet it says it is connected to the DOT4_001 port, whatever that is. I am supposed to be manual connecting it to some other port ?

Re: USB Control Center connection but no printer output
Which printer is this?
Have you been through all of the steps laid out in the manual?
>>>> WNDR3800 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<
See page 51.
Remember, as the manual says you have to install the USB printer driver software on each computer that will share the printer.

There are plenty of options in both cases but none of "Mark as solved".
