firmware update
how do i do this the lik fails to work
Security Updates Available |
WHY YOU ARE RECEIVING THIS EMAIL:
|
NETGEAR values the security of your network and data so we have released new firmware updates for several products to enhance your security. The products include routers, gateways, WiFi range extenders, and Powerlines. |
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
|
FOR ROUTERS:
|
To update your router's firmware, use a computer that is connected to your router's network and log in to your router at http://www.routerlogin.net. Select Advanced > Administration, click the Firmware Update or Router Update button, click the Check button, and follow the prompts. If there are no firmware updates available, then no further action is required. |

Re: firmware update

"fails to work" is not a useful problem description. It does not say
what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.
It's also not clear whose firmware you're trying to update. If you
have a cable modem(+router), then only your ISP can update its firmware
(making your job easy).

Re: firmware update
i figure it was a hoax because i did what they said and my router doen't have the names it ssid i needed to use. so i just deleted the email and will not pursue it any more. the email was from netgear security depatment but if it was that important they should have made it easier to follow. thanks

Revealing the model of your "my router" might help others decide,
too.

It's easy to follow, if you don't have a cable modem(+router).
Apparently, Netgear broadcasts these notices to every victim e-mail
address in their records, irregardful of what equipment any particular
victim might have, whether there actually is a firmware update for any
particular model, or, in the cable modem(+router) case, whether the
victim has any ability to install it. And then, the message itself
doesn't say any of that, so the victims tend to believe what it says.
