WNDR4500V2 - Remote Access manual says yes but cannot do in mobile app

So in the manual it says you can do remote access (I have the latest firmware V1.0.0.72_1.0.45

In the genie manual it says remote access can work with this...so I go to slide the remote access in the IOS app and says not suppported.

What can I do especially if travelling.

Modem can be restarted from my internet service provider.....but that won't restart the router I think....like to remotely though see things etc....

Thanks in advance.

   _Which_ "the IOS app"?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for
"Remote Management".  Can you use a web browser to do what you want
(with your firmware version)?

Why do you want to restart the router remotely?  If it gets into
enough trouble that it needs to be restarted, then I wouldn't bet on
being able to talk to it _locally_, let alone remotely.

The Genie App.

I have the lastest firmware...looked at the manual and when I go to remote management and hit the remote management slider it will tell me no available ...says does not support remote access..yet the manual says it does.

If I am remote....and I have the cable company reset the modem...I guess the router would then be reset?

Which genie is that? You refer to the genie. This could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which are you using?

Even Netgear goes out of its way to confuse us. It refers to NETGEAR genie App and Mobile genie App .

As to your device:

Which NETGEAR home router models can I manage using the NETGEAR genie app? | Answer | NETGEAR Suppor...

No WNDR4500V2, but that means not much.

The genie in the manual is the desktop one for your operating system.

To add to the confusion, Remote Access is not the same as Remote Management. And they have changed the name of Remote Access to Anywhere Access.

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "latest" today.

"slider"?  Are you still using the app?

> [...] Get the User Manual (at least).  Read. [...]

   Did you?

Try.  Your (unspecified) iOS device comes with Safari, right?

Why guess?  Why not run the experiment?  Some time when you're not
remote, restart the modem, and see what happens.  I haven't touched a
router with your model and (still unknown) firmware version, so I know
nothing, but I wouldn't be amazed if it recovered without any user
intervention.

But even if you would need to restart the router because it wasn't
communicating properly after the modem got reset, how, exactly, would
you expect to be able to tell the router to reset itself, IF IT'S NOT
COMMUNICATING PROPERLY?!?!  In such a situation, you'd seem to have a
serious chicken-egg problem.

   Still true.  Think about it.
