7K6000
1 TopicCompatibility with Hitachi 7K6000 disks
Background information: Have a ReadyNAS Pro 6 unit with 6 Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 3TB disks (which have a 512 bytes sector size). Recently added the last 2 disks to fill all 6 drive bays. Have been using this NAS unit for the past 5 years without problems. While reformatting the 6-disk volume to dual-redundancy and then restoring the data from a backup, I noticed that all disks (including the 2 new ones) were showing a “Raw Read Error Rate” of over 30k some showed 65k. This error rate would grow to 65k, cycle back to 0, and then progressively go up again (in a continuous cycle). While discussing the issue with the vendor that sold me the disks, they indicated that Hitachi no longer manufactures the Ultrastar 7K3000. Decided to replace the disks with something more current and selected the Hitachi 7K6000 4TB disks. Found 2 models of the 7K6000 4TB disks: HUS726040ALE610 (512e sector size) and HUS726040ALA610 (512n sector size). The 7K6000 is not listed in the compatibility list for ReadyNAS Pro 6. The 7K4000 4TB disk (which is in the compatibility list, but no longer manufactured) has a 512e sector size. Question: Which one of the 7K6000 4TB models (512e or 512n) would stand a better chance of success with the ReadyNAS Pro 6 (on which I’ve been using 7K3000 3TB disks with 512 sector size)? Thank you for the help.Solved
