AirCard 790S
2 TopicsStrong Passwords for AC790S
Hi All This is a query generated from discussion on another thread (https://community.netgear.com/t5/AirCard-LTE-Hotspots-Gateways/SECURITY-quot-Intruder-quot-on-Telstra-BigPond-4G-Advanced-II/m-p/1126947#M1108). In the AC790S manual, reference is made to passwords on a number of occasions. Extract Follows: Three passwords are associated with the hotspot: • Wi-Fi password. Use this to connect your computer or other Wi-Fi device to your mobile hotspot network. This character string is unique to your device. It displays on the main hotspot touchscreen. If the screen is blank (a power-saving feature), press and quickly release the Power key. The default Wi-Fi password is printed on a label under the battery. • Guest Wi-Fi password. When the guest Wi-Fi network is enabled, guests can use this password to access the network. • Admin login password. Use this to log in to the hotspot web page as an administrator. You must log in as an administrator to use certain features and to make changes to your hotspot settings. The default admin login password, admin, is printed on a label under the battery. The admin login pasword can be 5–31 characters. (Page 18.) That fairly sums up the reference to passwords throughout the manual. Re the "Main" password, the default one is a string of eight (8) numerals. Before I start monkeying around and possibly waste my time or worse, is anyone able to tell me: (1) whether the AC790S "Main" password - only referred to as a "character string ... unique to your device" also allows passwords up to 31 characters, and: (2) whether these characters can be the printable hexidecimal ones? (I.e., CAPITALS, lower case, 12345..., !@#$%...), and: (3) whether more than 31 characters are possible? Thank you ausgumbieSolvedSECURITY! "Intruder" on Telstra-BigPond 4G Advanced II AirCard 790S
Hi I really wanted this to appear under Security, but the website directed me here so if mods, you decide I'm in the wrong place, I did try. As shown, our family has a Netgear, BigPond Wi-Fi 4G Advanced II AirCard 790S hotspot. A day or so ago, I noted an unknown device on the online manager page. Being alone, and knowing no other devices were on, I did my normal thing - didn't note the device ID, didn't log in to get its IP address or block it - just panicked and got off the internet. Later, I got back on and waited to see if it re-joined, when I would snare its details and take things from there. It didn't re-appear that day. Today (15/8/2016), it reappeared but my wife was also online. I checked with her what devices she knew were on and the suspect one was definitely an "extra". This time, I logged in, got its details and blocked it. It had a 12-digit Mac number (i.e., in pairs separated by hyphens). Bit its showed as IP: 0.0.0.0. I looked up the Mac number on a site called "arul's utilities" and it told me the manufacturer (Western Digital, 1599 North Broadway, Rochester Mn 55906, United States) which doesn't mean much to me. Well - that's it. Do the things I've described above mean anything to anyone in the community out there? Cheers ausbumbieSolved
