1 TopicProblem (Bug or Feature Lacking) with ReadyNAS Backup - Scheduling Full Backups
RN314 with 4 2TB Reds OS 6.6.0 I have about a dozen shares on my ReadyNAS. I use the backup feature to back them up to two external hard drives (one eSATA connected and one USB3 connected). I use rsync so that I can delete on the backup copy any original files that I delete. Some of the shares I backup as needed, others are scheduled so that a complete backup gets done once a week, and incrementals each night. Since some of the shares are rather large (photogaphs and videos) I created backup jobs for the different shares on different days of the week (the only way I found after much trial and error) so that the weekly FULL backups happen on different days. It works, not elegantly, but it works. UNTIL . . . I power down the NAS when I go away for more than a day or two. When I return and boot the NAS ALL the backup jobs run at their appointed times as FULL backups and a week later they ALL run again as full backups! it is as if some "flag" gets reset or forgotten so tha the schedule I set up (by creating the backkup jobs on different days) is lost. Needless to say this is a pain 'cause it takes about 27 hours to complete all the FULL backups. So, the bug seems to be that the NAS forgets the backup schedule implied by setting up backup jobs on different days. The backup jobs all revert to FULL backup the first time (after powering up) and then every week. The workaround is to create two backup jobs for each share with one specifying the days of the week for incremental backups and another one specifying the day of the week for the FULL backup. I've been reluctant to do this because it will double th enumber of backup jobs and a slighly-increased chance of errors. Note that this is easier now that the backup jobs are sorted/displayed in alpha order (thank you!). It would be ideal if the options tab for creating a backup job included a choice for what day of the week you want to do a full backup. Thank you!2.5KViews0likes4Comments
