FVX538v2 dropped/unstable PPPoE connection
Hello, I bought a FVX538v2 from eBay as im a great fan of netgear products. This is to replace my ISP supplied router which lacks any VPN functionality. My preference is often for slighly older commercial grade kit as its normally more reliable and has alot of historical support information. Router runs on v3.1.1-08 firmware. I have an FTTC modem which requires a PPPoE connection with user name & password. My ISP provides a DHCP connection so my WAN1 setup is very simple as a result. Connection is 80/20Mb and it looks like the 538 can handle this... when it connects. Only WAN1 is configured, and the mode is NAT. I dont have any VPN setup yet. I have one port opened and thats it. The 538 acts as DHCP server for the LAN and i have DNS proxy enabled. I have found the connection to my modem is prone to drop after anything from miuntes to hours. Other times it takes a few shots of removing and insertng the WAN network cable before i get a link. If i drop out the 538 and plug in the ISP supplied modem all issues go away, i get a solid connection first time. As such im pretty sure all my cabling is OK, the modem & phone line, and LAN is all good. So, i feel i am at either looking at a setup issue or a hardware issue. I see from research online WAN1 and WAN2 use different ethernet controller IC's so i plan to try setting up on WAN 2. (Wife watching something on Netflix via ISP supplied modem just now so tinkering is a no-go!) I have seen faulty capacitors upset network equipment with switching power supply noise/ripple affect ethernet stability in older Netgear kit, so i may look at a cap replacement excersise. Any tips on possible setup issues would be helpfull.
SRX5308 Hosting multiple websites in the DMZ not working! HELP!
I have a group of 5 static IP's that I use to host websites. I have the SRX5308 set to use 1 WAN port with one of the IP's and added the rest of the IP's as "Secondary IP's". Next I have multiple IP's bound to my network adaptor in Win Server 2008 and those IP's are bound to seperate websites. (This is no different then having 4 seperate web servers, and probably irrelevant to this question) Then I have "DMZ WAN rules" set to forward HTTP request to the cooresponding Server IP. This all worked fine on the FVX538 v2, but it's not working at all on the SRX5308! What is the right way to setup up multiple IP Addresses/Web Servers in the DMZ on the SRX5308? (This is a huge problem right now, my FVX538 died and this is the replacment!) Thanks for any help..
FVX538 - Problems
Hello all: I am back, I have two FVX538 V2 units I have the following problems one of which has been ongoing for over a year. -======================= First Problem: I cannot get either of the units to take the firmware upgrade. I get an error that says: Upgrade Failed: Invalid Firmware File Length........ I have downloaded the firmware from the Netgear site at work and at home, file size is 7.55 MB from both locations, neither file seems to want to work. The firmware currently installed is 3.0.6-29 -======================= Second Problem: Every time I initiate an FTP update on my server the FVX538 craps out. The unit loses its internet connection and does not reset itself for up to 15 minutes or until I reboot the Netgear unit. I have taken this problem to Netgear support but there is no resolution to date and my last support request was 3/1/2011 I have the EXACT same problem as this post: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=63213&highlight=fvx538 It is most frustrating to have to take the FVX538 off-line, put on-line a FVS338 perform FTP upgrades only to then remove the FVS338 and reinstall the FVX538. It makes NO sense that when we perform an upgrade on the server which uses FTP to upgrade the server that the FVX538 unit loses its connection to the internet and locks up. What I have done is HARD RESET the routert, reset to factory defaults three times then after the third reset, reinstalled the settings by hand NOT using the backup restore and this does not appear to help at all. I have done this at least four times, twice per unit and it still does NOT work. It also makes NO sense that I have two of these FVX538 units and they BOTH act the same way. -====================== My setup is : WAN to FVX538, FVX538 to Netgear switch, switch to server, switch to workstations. Monitoring with the FVX538 is NOT an option as the unit locks up and I cannot stop the monitoring and download the file. All monitoring with the FVX538 is lost when it resets or I have to reboot the unit. I have Wireshark loaded on a laptop and a small Netgear 4 port hub – I can try to monitor on the LAN side or move hub in front of the FVX538 between router and WAN and I guess I could monitor the WAN. -===================== Up until now this has only been a nuisance but this is getting old. I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS. I would appreciate ANY help that anyone can provide. Thank you Kobie
