Woke up, the power light and the two LAN lights on my router were blinking white, there was no connection to either of my devices and the wifi was turned off. My first instinct was to restart the router, but after a few moments it immediately went back to the same light situation. I unplugged all the cables and noticed a pool of water near the internet cable, upon dangling it, I noticed the cable was filled with water. So I had the cable replaced, but now my router will go back to the blinking lights and loss of functionality when I start it up with anything plugged in. However, if I start the router with only the power cable in, it starts up just fine, and if I plug in all the cables (internet and 2 lan cables) in after, then everything seems to work, but upon running a speed test, my speed seems to be capped at 100mbps, instead of the 500mbps which I'm supposed to receive from my ISP. I've already tried factory resetting, and updating my router to the latest firmware, but nothing has solved my problem so far. Is the router done for cause of the water damage? Or is there anything I can do to salvage the situation? Thanks for the help 🙂1.3KViews0likes3CommentsI'm having issues with limited speeds with Nighthawk XR500
Hi. I recently bought an XR500 router from Amazon. Before this, I only had a 100 Mbps router. My ISP plan is 300 Mbps. I configured my router with all the default settings. However, I'm having an issue where I'm getting only up to 100 Mbps speeds with my connection (realistically around 92-94 Mbps). I browsed around the forums for different solutions and one suggested looking at the Device Manager to look at link speeds. I have attached a screenshot of my link speeds. I have a desktop connected on port 3 and the link speed is 1000 Mbits. I'm assuming this means the cable between my desktop and the router is capable of upto 1000 Mbps speed. In the INTERNET port, it says only 100 Mbits. I'm guessing that I'm only getting upto 100 Mbps through the cable from the ISP. All cables are Cat6. As far as I understand, I can tell that this could be the reason why my internet speed is being limited to 100 Mbps. But I just want clarification whether this is an issue with the router itself or an issue on my ISP side. If it's an issue with the router, please let me know what I can do to fix it. Otherwise, if I can eliminate the router as a possible cause, then I'll take up the issue with my ISP. Please let me know. Thanks.Solved4KViews0likes10CommentsXR500 Xbox one x hardwired issue
I have the xr500 and I’ve had nothing but issues since I got it. First it wouldn’t connect at all. Did a factory reset of the router and it worked! Since I’ve had it though, my Xbox says my nat type is strict and will not let me use party chat. I have port forwarded all required ports for my Xbox and this is still the issue. If I have to reset my router for any reason it will not connect to the internet with the Xbox hardwired into the back. Then I have to factory reset it just to get it to connect again. Yet the issue is still I can’t use this router with my Xbox. I’ve had to have all my friends download discord so we can talk during games. Anyone else have any issues like this? Any work around?1.7KViews0likes2CommentsVERY long reboot times - XR500
Ok, so to start, my shiny and exciting XR500 gaming router is turning into an absolute shambolic nightmare. The thing is plagued with problems. I am hoping for the sake of the community that it is just mine but this is the latest in a string of irritating bugs that should not be present on a £250 router. Due to many problems: IPV6 not working, DDNS being buggy, in game lag, higher than before ping stats and worse than before BQM results I have been forced into restarting my modem regularly. When i perform a reboot, either via the interface or the router itself it can take at least 5 minutes before the gui becomes responsive and will allow me to log in. The power light stays red while the other lights are white. Devices can connect to the internet but cannot connect to the router itself. Due to the long list of issues im having with this router I am starting to think it is a faulty unit. Anybody else experience this long wait while the router reboots? Hello. I have been using an R8000 router for the past year and recently got my hands on the XR500. I have a 2 storey house with my ISP modem set to bridge mode and the netgear router on the main floor. Since I now have 2 really good routers, I was thinking I should put the XR500 on the main floor and the R8000 on the 2nd floor LAN connected. I guess I would put the R8000 into AP mode since the XR 500 has the good firmware. My question is if this makes sense, or should I just use the XR500 and sell the R8000? I'm wondering how the tri-band on the R8000 would work alongside the dual band on the XR500. Does it just do 2 bands in this case? I would typically try it myself but am away for work so checking to see if anyone has done this.3.4KViews0likes2CommentsNighthawk XR500 USB Control Center not recognizing my printer
Router : Nighthawk XR500 OS : Windows 10 Printer : Samsung ML-2165 I tested the USB ports and they recognize the Flash drives, but when I plug in the printer , there is no light on the router (USB) and the NETGEAR Usb Control Center does not see any printers - even if I turn off Firewall / Kaspersky Antivirus. Any suggestions please? ThanksSolved9.6KViews0likes14Comments
