Help! Dying of slow speeds!
1 TopicR6200V2 running slow after provider increased speeds to home
So here in Alaska my provider GCI upgraded my internet package from 50mb down/5 mb up to now 100 mb down/ 10 mb up. However, i have complained about not getting anywhere close to that speed at home. They asked me to do some speed tests from the cable modem directly to my laptop using cat5 cable. those speed tests averaged 95mb down/9.5 mb up. My netgear router is plugged into my modem by cat5 aprox. 3' long. Plugging my laptop into my router with cat 5 and preforming the same speed tests give me approx. 32-38 mb down/ 8 mb up. I tried numerous times, i unplugged and rebooted everything a few times and rechecked tests with same results. Using wifi on the router my speed tests are even lower. It seemed to work ok when the internet was origionaly 50down/5 up but now im losing out. Cable company says its my routers fault and nothing they can do to help me. What can I do to increase the routers speed? Is there any settings i need to change due to the upgrade? Should I throw this in the trash and buy a new one? I have 5 people in the house all with apple phones, two apple tvs, 3 smart tvs, a few lap tops all using internet. Plus my son and I like to game on our ps4s. What would be an appropriate replacement modem to handle this load and cable speed? Can I save my current router and speed it up instead? Any help would be fantastic!!! Please im dying a slow internet speed death!Solved
