40 Topicsnoob help: OpenVPN on an Orbi RBR20
Hello. I enabled OpenVPN on my Orbi RBR20 using default settings, i.e., TUN on UDP 12973 and TAP on UDP 12974. I installed the OpenVPN client downloaded from OpenVPN.net with default settings. I copied the configuration files downloaded from the Orbi to OpenVPN\config. The exported client.ovpn file is below, with the remote network name redacted. Following instructions found here, I changed the name of the TAP adapter to "NETGEAR-VPN". Attempts to connect to the VPN from my Windows 11 Pro client laptop fail. It's connected to the internet using my phone hotspot. NSlookup for the network name is successful. The log file is below. Among other issues, it says it can't find ca.crt, client.crt or client.key. Those are in the OpenVPN\config folder, as instructed on the page linked above. What am I doing wrong? client.ovpn: client dev tap proto udp dev-node NETGEAR-VPN remote [NETWORKNAME].mynetgear.com 12974 resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun ca ca.crt cert client.crt key client.key cipher AES-128-CBC comp-lzo verb 0 sndbuf 393216 rcvbuf 393216 route-method exe client.log 2022-09-14 13:14:40 WARNING: Compression for receiving enabled. Advertising all over the place tauting support for child protection via mytime using Orbi, on Amazon Kindles. Major challenge: 1. Orbi mytime-install link take syou to a google marketplace, which only installs on known devices. 2. APK's don't install directly onto kindles without 3rd party software So can someone direct me to the step-by-step Kindle installation instructions for the mytime app? Or was this all just "assumptions" on Product Managements' part because android was supported? Use Case: As a parent and owner of a Kindle device, I would like to install and configure the mytime application for managing my childs online saftey, by following step-by-step instructions given that the application is not registered on the Amazon Marketplace for Kindle. orbisupport NetgearSupport_It amazes me that a product so expensive would be so buggy...
So, got this product that is by all views is rather expensive and supposedly feature full. I have always considered Netgear a great network hardware provider especially in the home / small business market. I am an IT consultant and have worked with everything from CISCO edge routers to Load Balencers Iron from Foundry and everything in between. What really bothers me is that no matter what I try I am unable to disable to virus of a feature called Netgear Armor. It is designs like these that make companies like Netgear end up lossing market share. I am sure their automatic free 30 day trial and the general inability to disable this virus feature easily has made them some money. However, I think this is likely the last Netgear product that I will ever buy. Perhaps more companies need to understand that their solution is not always appreciated to be forced on all users. I am sure some users love this "service" and I am fine with it being an option. However, there should be a simple way to disable it that doesn't require you to have to reinitialize your whole network in order to do so. Perhaps, I will just return this product and find something that is a little more configurable that actually does what the user wants and not what the company who produced the product want to force the users to do. I am sure this post will likely be deleted. Because I really do not want a solution, as I have already seen 100s of others with the same issue to understand that it is solvable with some pain included. Do not think for one minute that this is not intentional. I am sure enough people try and just give up trying to disable this stupid armor that is forced on them. The good network engineers at Netgear should be ashamed of themselves for supporting such a predatory way of making money. Not actually by how good your product is but by forcing unwitting and less technical people to buy into your subsctiption useless virus armor! So very sad to see more and more technology companies resort to this horrific business practices to enslave their users. Cheers, TNew device vulnerability RBK753
Netgear Armor claims to have detected a vulnerability on one of my devices. See the included screen shot. The problem is it just says "New device" and I have no way of telling which device on the network it is referring to. When I tap the device icon I briefly see a message saying "Please wait..." then it just returns back to the same screen. This seems like it would be a great feature if it worked. How do I figure out which device this is referring to?Trying to setup Armor on Orbi app
Puchased Orbi Mesh systemem 11 months ago. Existng security software has now expired and trying to setup Armor through the Orbi app. I get the message "This plan is not available" I've delete and re-installed the app as well as reset the router with still the same resultMost Stable Orbi Configuration
Orbi Model: RBK53 V2 (with additional satellite i.e 3 Satellites and 1 Router) Firmware Version: 2.5.1.16 (Updated Manually) I have replaced my NightHawk system with Orbi Mesh System couple of months back and since then have tried different settings to arrive at the most stable Orbi configuration. Here's what I have found to have worked for me and system has been fairly stable with below configurations - 01. Enable Implicit Beamforming, MU-MIMO and WMM. 02. Daisy Chain - Activate if more than 2 satellite. 03. Fast Roaming - Disable 04. Armor - Optional (Negligible impact on performance) 05. Disable IPv6 06. Enable 20/40Mhz Coexistence 07. Logs - Untick logging of DoS attacks and Port scans 08. Channel 1 for 2.4 Ghz and Channel 36 for Ghz 09. Guest Network - Disabled 10. Remote Management - Disabled 11. Static IP Address for all Satellites and connected devices Let me know what's your configuration and if tweaking any other setting has helped you achieve better performance and stable Wifi. Issues observed: 1. My phone disconnects and reconnects while roaming in the mesh Wifi network. This is specific to my phone only and other devices are working fine. 2. Orbi app shows wrong network Map 3. Orbi app takes time to detect network and productRBR40 and Armor subscription?
Purchased RBR40 several months ago from Best Buy. (BTW, why isn't RBR40 in any of the choices?) In the app, Armor shows it's activated yet I can't remember ever subscribing to a term or making payment. So my question is: Is the Armor in use on my router (1) Free, forever or (2) Free for now but I'll be asked to subscribe later (at cost) or (3) I paid for it and just can't remember doing so (doubtful!) Thx. from Best Buy site: NETGEAR - Orbi AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System (3-pack) - White Model:RBK43S-100NASOrbi and Armor/Bitdefender Worth it?
I am new to the Orbi system and have the trial of the Armor/Bitdefender. is this worth it to pay the subscription fee for? i do not plan to install the apps to devices but is the service on the router to block/manage traffic worth it? I am a former Mac user so the use of AV tools is not standard. :-) I am debating and leaning that it is worth it on the router but wanted advice. thanks in advance.
