5 Topics8TB ST8000NM0055 with ReadyNAS Pro 6 - so far, so good
My report: One week in, RNDP6000 (no suffix on label) Pro 6, with 6x ST8000NM0055 (f/w SN02) - working fine. This drive is NOT on the HCL, repeat my foolhardy example at your own risk, blah, blah, blah. RAM was upgarded to 4G (2x Kingston KVR800D2N6K2, (discontinued)). Had installed OS 6.6.1 before doing the factory reset with new drives in place. The sync took ~48 hours in the background, with concurrent backups (6TB over that period) running. I'm assuming I already had the newest BIOS on this thing: root@pro2:~# dmesg | grep BIOS ... [ 0.000000] DMI: To Be Filled By O.E.M. To Be Filled By O.E.M./To be filled by O.E.M., BIOS 080014 07/26/2010 These 8TB Disks suffer from the annoying whine at idle, as reported on other threads. Seagate says a new drive f/w will be realeased soon (March 2017 or thereafter). Noise will be fixed by what they say is an adjustment to "step sweep seek value" in firmware. Go to https://apps1.seagate.com/downloads/request.html and enter your drive's serial number to see if the f/w is released. The version we're after should be newer than SN02, perhaps SN03+. I hope someone finds this useful. ~37T formatted capacity: root@pro2:~# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 10M 4.0K 10M 1% /dev /dev/md0 4.0G 415M 3.3G 12% / tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev/shm tmpfs 2.0G 5.9M 2.0G 1% /run tmpfs 986M 996K 985M 1% /run/lock tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/md127 37T 8.6T 28T 24% /data /dev/md127 37T 8.6T 28T 24% /apps /dev/md127 37T 8.6T 28T 24% /home3.9KViews0likes4CommentsCompatibility with Hitachi 7K6000 disks
Background information: Have a ReadyNAS Pro 6 unit with 6 Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 3TB disks (which have a 512 bytes sector size). Recently added the last 2 disks to fill all 6 drive bays. Have been using this NAS unit for the past 5 years without problems. While reformatting the 6-disk volume to dual-redundancy and then restoring the data from a backup, I noticed that all disks (including the 2 new ones) were showing a “Raw Read Error Rate” of over 30k some showed 65k. This error rate would grow to 65k, cycle back to 0, and then progressively go up again (in a continuous cycle). While discussing the issue with the vendor that sold me the disks, they indicated that Hitachi no longer manufactures the Ultrastar 7K3000. Decided to replace the disks with something more current and selected the Hitachi 7K6000 4TB disks. Found 2 models of the 7K6000 4TB disks: HUS726040ALE610 (512e sector size) and HUS726040ALA610 (512n sector size). The 7K6000 is not listed in the compatibility list for ReadyNAS Pro 6. The 7K4000 4TB disk (which is in the compatibility list, but no longer manufactured) has a 512e sector size. Question: Which one of the 7K6000 4TB models (512e or 512n) would stand a better chance of success with the ReadyNAS Pro 6 (on which I’ve been using 7K3000 3TB disks with 512 sector size)? Thank you for the help.SolvedCannot upload apps under OS 6.5.0 on PRO 6
Hi, I'm running LMS 7.8.0 on a legacy PRO 6 using OS 6.5.0. When I installed LMS 7.8.0, I was running OS 6.3.5 and I used Logitech's logitechmediaserver_7.8.0_all.deb together with superpoussin's lms_1.0.8_all.deb Last weekend I wanted to upgrade LMS from 7.8.0 to 7.9.0 using the logitechmediaserver_7.9.0~1472633108_all.deb file which can be downloaded from Logitech's nightly builds. When trying to upload the file, I get error message "Cannot install application D:\....\logitechmediaserver_7.9.0~1472633108_all.deb". Installing the lms_1.0.8_all.deb also generates the cannot install error. Does anyone have any idea why I cannot install Logitech's deb files on OS 6.5.0? I even cannot install the 7.8.0 version anylonger, which worked fine on OS 6.3.5. Many thanks for any help!SolvedOS6 on legacy Pro 6
Was going to reply to an existing thread, but it won't let me... ReadyNas Pro 6. Running with 4GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo E7600 (3.06 GHz) in it. Now that Plex have decided to stop new releases for OS4, I'll finally need to make the jump to OS6. So: Backup Download the prep4tor6 bin Upload it like an add-on, but don't reboot Download R4toR6 bin Upload it using the ReadyNAS web gui firmware update After you upload the addon/firmware and reboot, it will update the firmware and start a factory default. What is the latest version to use? In the directory the most recent ones I see are: R4toR6_6.5.1.bin R4toR6_latest-beta.bin R4toR6_latest.bin Are these right? Or is there "Get this particular version that's best for a Pro 6 and don't get a later version as it doesn't work as well" or something?4.4KViews0likes4Comments
