My question is am I using my AC2600 router in the best way possible, given recent network changes in my house? Recently I upgraded my home router from a LinkSys to the NetGear AC2600, which has nice range on it. This however still did not increase my network speed much, so I contacted my internet provider, whose first response was for me to get a new router. Did that already, so then they responded that my modem in the house needed to be replaced with a new one from them. (Note I was a TimeWarner customer, Spectrum took over, line speed is better, but was not up to minimum advertisments. It is now.) Long story short they replaced my modem with a Ubee modem/router. In other words I now have 2 routers. The line speed tripled for both the NetGear and Ubee router connections. I currently have the NetGear router directly connected to the Ubee router via etheret, and the Ubee is connected to the house cable line. I tested the range in my yard at the farthest point and the Ubee is not seen, but the NetGear router is. I am wondering the following: - Is the NetGear Router an expensive overkill, maybe there is a recommended Extender option I should get instead? Note the AC2600 is a recent purchase I could still take back. - Assuming the Extender option does not save me enough, or is not better than using the AC2600. Is it better or even possible for me to connect wirelessly from the AC2600 to Spectrum's Ubee router? Since my internet provider cable comes into the basement, where I currently have the Ubee and NetGear routers, in my 4 split level house (think bi-level shift half of the house up 6 to 8 steps), does it make sense to move the NetGear router to a higher floor, to give better range to the upstairs floors and corners of my yard? I am not looking to sit at the corner of my yard on my laptop, but while doing yard work I do like to listen to music, answer the phone etc. So bottom line is it worth keeping the AC2600? Is there a better cheaper option for network extension? If I keep the AC2600, is there a better way to setup my network than having 2 routers next to each other in my basement? Will they interfere with each other? Note there is not a great option for moving the internet provider cable upstairs, all my walls and ceilings are sheetrocked, so at least the Ubee is easiest stuck down stairs. Thank You for any comments or help.Solved3.7KViews0likes2CommentsSpecify IP address range for bypass of blocked sites and parental controls
We run a number of Chrome OS devices in our house (and thus can't install the Netgear Genie app on these devices), but would like to bypass blocked keywords/sites/domans and parental controls on these devices (note: plural). Apparently, the router firmware currently only allows specification of only 1 IP address that can bypass the keyword/site/domain blocking. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to allow multiple Chrome OS devices to bypass? Is Netgear planning to implement more granularity for these settings based on IP address ranges anytime soon? Frankly, I expected this from a $250 router when routers from other companies that cost half have this feature.Solved3.4KViews0likes1CommentRange Reduction on Nighthawk R7000 – Part 2
Hello, I've had the Nighthawk R7000 for about 1 year now and it has performed with excellence. Within the past month however I've noticed a very weak wireless signal when moving far away from the router within my apartment. At times I'm unable to connect to the WiFi signal at all whereas before I had no problems…I'm also using a Netgear Extender from which I’m also experiencing the same issues. The strange part is that only the 2.4 GHZ channel is experiencing these glitches. The 5 GHZ channel seems to get good coverage all over the home whereas before it was limited to a very small distance range. Nevertheless, I want to continue using the 2.4 channel for all wifi computer and mobile devices within the home. Here are some troubleshooting steps I’ve completed so far but haven’t helped: Tried rebooting both devices Since I live in an apartment building, with many neighboring wifi connections, I tried switching to other wifi channels that weren’t so busy I appreciate any assistance.Solved3.3KViews0likes2CommentsRange Reduction on Nighthawk R7000

Ok was excited about this Router because I saw reviews of people using this in their 3,500 sq. foot 2 story house. Yet I have updated to the latest firmware last night and currently get broken up signals at just 35 feet away. I will admint sometimes I close my bedroom door - but that should not make that much breakup in only 35 feet away. Heck the Apple AirPort Extreme was doing better than this with No antennas. I have the channel switch to Auto any other suggestions? Also the Netgear Genie (latest version) will not close easily on Mac (OS X 10.11 El Capitan) - always have to force quit it.Solved8KViews0likes4Comments
