Moving to a new office. I will have several Cat7 drops. The R6300v2 and R7800 listed in this post are the current routers (used as WAPs only) in my old office. Now... I'd like to wire the WAPs and have romers do 802.11k handoff. I called sales ("We don't support it") and looked on the community boards (same info). Yet I know (or at least know the advertising says) that the EX8000 has it. So (a) what units are 802.11K capable, and (b) if the EX8000 is, then can I use it as a basic WAP through one of its RJ45's, and not the dedicated channel? Any knowledgable input appreciated!Solved2.9KViews0likes4CommentsX6S AmA – Do i need a Tri-band router to get the most from the EX8000?
To get out most of it do i need a Tri-band router for the HEIGH fast band level on 5GHz to dedicated the 1733 Mbps for the backhaul and my other 2,4/5GHz mobile devices could communicate on the low and middle band on the router, If i only have a dual band router the high band would be uptaken on the 5GHz by the EXT8000 and just leave the 2,4GHz band for mobile devices, or the best would be a Orbi router?Solved3KViews0likes8CommentsX6S AmA – Which Wi-Fi routers are compatible with the EX8000's 802.11k Fast Roaming/Fast Transition?
Does the 802.11k roaming feature "just work" out of the box, or do I need to configure the EX8000 a certain way? Does my router (in this case, a Netgear Nighthawk x10|R9000) need to support 802.11k for best results? Does 802.11k need to be configured on the router? Can the EX8000 use Ethernet as the backhaul to extend a single network (and not be in AP mode)? Additionally, is Netgear considering adding 802.11r or 802.11v roaming capabilities (perhaps only when the EX8000 is connected to certain other Netgear routers using identical administrator credentials and connected via an Ethernet cable for backhaul - similar to how Apple AirPort roaming used to work back in the day)? Bonus question! Does the EX8000 support DFS channels and/or 160MHz channel width? Apologies for the super-detailed questions. I'm very interested in potentially adding one or two these to my network, and possibly deploying a similar solution in my parent's home.2.1KViews0likes2Comments
