549 TopicsSelective VPN for specific devices?
Hi all. Asus router have a feature called VPN Fusion. It allows set up of multiple VPN networks and the ability to select specific devices on the network that use the VPN. Does Netgear have a similar feature on their routers? And if so, which specific models (preferably from the mesh network range) actually have this feature? I need to set up my VPN service on the router and only have 3 devices on my network use it.292Views0likes1CommentEAX20 intermittent?
I have a Nighthawk R7800 on the lower level of my home. A few years ago I added a Meross WiFi device for my garage door. Because of an apparent weak signal, I later added an EAX20. All was well until the past week when my video doorbell started going offline (it’s about 15’ from the EAX20). After much messing around, the doorbell somehow got connected to the router instead and all is well again. The EAX20 clients are mostly IP cameras and have never gone offline. Is the a means to select which AP a device connects to?262Views0likes1CommentProduct recommendation for an RV AP with Wi-Fi backhaul.
Hello, I am looking for an AP for my RV that would allow for Wi-Fi backhaul to another local AP. It needs to have an external antenna connector or a removable 2.4 or 2.4/5 antenna. I am thinking that a range extender could work but I would prefer to have my own SSID. A Mesh system would only work if the far AP was the same product. Do most AP's allow for non wired backhaul? Possibly one solution would be a range extender to the far AP along with a local AP using the extender's link as backhaul. ?511Views0likes1CommentR6700AX
I have a R6700AX router on the second floor of my home. I am building an office in the basement of my home. We do have Wi Fi from the router in the basement but it is spotty at best. I have a chase from the basement to the area that the router is in. I can run ethernet from point to point. Is there a good product that I can wire to the R6700AX I have now that would give me a seamless WI Fi in both areas ?Wifi dropping out ex6110
Modem: tplink VX220-G2v I have set up the extender and it works fine for maybe a day, then internet drops out and won't stay connected, even when connected won't load anything. Then I turn off and on my modem and it might work again for 24-48 hours. Anything I can do?855Views0likes3CommentsWiFi System without Router
Just bought a house with a 2nd floor. There will be 2 gamers on this level, not including the gamer on the main level. We currently have a router and are looking to give this a boost. Can you purchase the Orbi Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System without a router as we do not need the additional equipment? If you have to purchase the router with this System, is there another System without the router? Thank You in advance.1.5KViews0likes6CommentsIs Nighthawk a scam? Dangerous? Data collecting? Seems like it.
I bought this router/extender 3.5 months ago. Every single month so far, it shut down my internet access and the only way to get it back was to load that **bleep** app on my phone. As soon as I loaded the app, the network came back. This happened 4 times now. Every time I couldn't get the network back, all I did was load the app and the network came back instantly. This indicates to me that you are collecting something, data, something, I don't know. There's no reason the app should be required to use your router or extender. I even factory reset this device, and set it up via the web page only. It wouldn't even connect to the internet once I set it up that way. I had to load the app, which said the router was not set up, but the network came back even with it saying not set up. Today we had an 8 hour outage with xfinity and the network came back on the main xfinity router, but the nighthawk extender did not come back. I reboot it, nothing. I connected to it via the android app, boom, internet's back. This is entirely unacceptable. There is no reason this app should be required to use your hardware. None whatsoever. I can't even access the router via the local web IP anymore, you guys disabled my access to it. It doesn't have a local IP anymore since I set it up and the android app can't even set it up. You gave me a useless 3 month warranty with it, and don't even have support unless you pay for it. You are a terrible, scummy, greedy company. I used to like Netgear, way back. But you've changed, you've gotten way worse. The company should shut down, and never sell another product again. Forcing people to use android applications that collect god knows what in order to make your hardware operate. Shutting down your hardware if people don't want to use the android applications. Giving useless tiny warranties and support time limits. Absolutely horrific for a company to do. Very anti-consumer. I plan to make a fuss about this everywhere I can go. This is just, terrible. I'm so angry right now. Having to load an android app just to use my **bleep** extender. I'm sure you'll hide my post, ban me so people can't hear my experience, whatever it takes to make yourselves look good. I already left my review on Amazon, and posted on the reddit. I'll continue to spread the word in other locations assuming this problem doesn't get fixed very promptly. This is truly terrible, I have no idea what kind of spyware your app is but the fact that its entirely required is just wrong. https://www.reddit.com/r/NETGEAR/comments/1b0d7bw/nighthawk_app_dangerous_or_just_plain_bad/ https://www.reddit.com/r/NETGEAR/comments/1aw9bxp/netgear_routers_without_app_without_account/4.2KViews2likes7CommentsTrying to figure out what products to buy for the networks I need.
Hello, this is my first posting so I dunno this forum's rules and etiquette for what info is needed/presented or how to post, so please forgive me if I make mistakes. I have been given a set of 5 public IPv4 address, xxx.xxx.xxx.17/29, and I want to assign these to each of my 5 computers. Two of these computers are located adjacent to where the incoming cat6 cable from my ISP is and I could simply use a switch to extend my external network to these 2 systems. I would then assign two of my pool of public IP address to these two computers. The complication arises because the other three computers are in remote locations and cannot be reached by a cable. Also, FYI, effectively I only have two locations to worry about. The two computers, located where the incoming cable from my ISP, also have a local area private net 192.168.10.0/24 that they share. Ditto for the 3 remote computers, they too are also connected to their own local private net 192.168.20.0/24 In other words I want my external network to look like this - Home network: Incoming cable from ISP with a gateway public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.17 connected to one of the LAN ports of a 5 port Switch Computer A which has a NIC assigned to static public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.18 connected to one of the LAN ports of a 5 port Switch. Computer B which has a NIC assigned to static public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.19 connected to one of the LAN ports of a 5 port Switch. A NetGear-WiFi device connected via it's first cat6 port, to one of the LAN ports of a 5 port Switch but does not require an IP address from my pool of 5 public addresses I own. This device is for extending my public network, via WiFi, to each of my remote computers. Let's call this device NG_Device A. If NG_Device A had a second cat-6 port for control and configure functions only, that didn't need an IP address from the external network, that I want to extend across the Wifi link, I could then assign a private LAN address to it. Remote Network: A NetGear-WiFi device connected to NG_Device A, via Wifi. Let's call this device NG_Device B. Like NG_Device A, If NG_Device B had a second cat-6 port for control and configure functions, that didn't need an IP address from the external network that I want to extend, I could then assign a private LAN address to it also. A second 5 port Switch connected to the first cat6 port of NG-Device B. Computer C which has a NIC assigned to static public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.20 connected to one of the LAN ports of the second 5 port switch Computer D which has a NIC assigned to static public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.21 connected to one of the LAN ports of the second 5 port switch Computer E which has a NIC assigned to static public address of xxx.xxx.xxx.22 connected to one of the LAN ports of the second 5 port switch I am by no means a network expert but this setup seems like it should be easily doable! But I cannot puzzle out what to purchase and how to go about setting up the the NG_Device A and B devices to accomplish this! Nor can I grok whether I can assign a private IP address to each device while configuring it to handle/extend the external network. Conceptually I want a WiFi link that acts like a simple dumb cable! Can you help me to choose what NetGear devices I need to purchase and explain how to configure them? It seems to me that each of the devices I am going to purchase will require at least 2 cat6 cable connections each? I looked at NetGear WiFi Extenders, but they only have 1 cat6 port, and I dunno how I can accomplish what I want to do with my limited set of public IP addresses. Maybe I have the wrong idea about how networks are extended across WiFi links, but this should give you the gist of what I want to accomplish. Thanks in advance and appreciate any and all suggestions! Marc...Nighthawk X6 extender question - can you use two?
Hi, I’m using a Nighthawk X6 extender to extend the wifi in my house, but I need to extend it further. My router is at one end of the house and then the current extender is in the middle of the house, and then I need to extend the wifi to the other end of the house. Will it work if I buy another identical Nighthawk X6 extender? Thank you in advance! EX7700 — AC2200 Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band WiFi Mesh Extender1.9KViews0likes9Comments
