Slow wifi download to laptop - fast download to smartphone
My modem is brand new Netgear CM1000 (DOCSIS 3.1) My router is ORBI RBK50. With ethernet cable hardwired to computer, the modem provides download speed of about 67 Mbps (the maximum available from Cox in this location. Over Wi-Fi, the Orbi provides faster download speeds (from 13 to 67 Mbps) to my smartphone (a Samsung Galaxy). To a fairly new ASUS laptop the download speed is about 12 or 13 Mbps. But it provides only 5 Mbps to my laptop, a fairly new and well equipped Dell XPS 13. What accounts for the faster speeds to the smartphone? And why does one laptop recieve higher download speeds than the other? And why is wi-fi speed only a tenth of hardwire speed? (I am testing wi-fi within 15 feet of the Orbi router.) I hate paying for 67 Mbps and getting only 5. What can you tell me about such low speeds?
