TLDR: With Orbi, my 5Ghz capable devices are "forced" to connect to 2.4 Ghz most of the time, slowing down speed. Tested against 3 different routers and my 5Ghz capable can connect to 5Ghz network all the time. I got the 3-pack Orbi from Costco and after numerous testing, ALL my devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz MOST of the TIME rather than 5 Ghz. This slows down the transfer speed from 800 Mbps to a paltry 145 Mbps. Unfortunately, since the Orbi does not allow separate SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I cannot "force" my device to connect only to 5Ghz to get better speed. This means that I have a $499 router system that mostly allow only 2.4 Ghz. I previously have a Time Capsule and setup 2 separate SSID: - devices capable of 5Ghz will ONLY connect to 5Ghz SSID (MacBook, iPhone, etc.) - devices capable of ONLY 2.4 Ghz will connect to 2.4Ghz SSID (thermostate, etc.) There was no changes on the setup or placement of my devices when I replace the Time Capsule with the Orbi: 1). Orbi is in the middle of apartment, same location as my Time Capsule 2). Laptops are in the same area as before (desk, room 1, etc.) 3). Other devices are in the same area as before (printer, camera, thermostat, etc.). 4). No new devices that can interference with Wifi signal The ONLY changes is the Orbi Router and Satellite and now all my 5Ghz capable devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz with Orbi. I powered down Orbi, put my Time Capsule back and BAM!! I got 5Ghz connection again. For a separate testing, I bought the following: - Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 - ASUS RTC3200 Setup both to have separate SSID and BAM! 5Ghz devices can connect to ONLY 5Ghz network. I hope Orbi will change this in the new upgrade. Otherwise, I have no need for a $499 router that "force" 5Ghz devices to connect to 2.4 Ghz network.Best way to factory reset a disconnected RBR and RBS 50's
Hi all, I have powered off and disconnected my RBR and 2 RBS 53's. These were replaced by another (newer) mesh system. The new network is functional. Unfortunately, before switching over to the new devices, I did not factory reset the RBK53 devices. They are sitting on my workbench. I need to erase them before selling them or giving them away.. What is the best way to factory reset and erase all stored information (esp passwords) from those things? The long press (with a pin) of the reset button has not always worked when I was using the RBK53. They would pop right back on the network, from what I remember... Thx. AlokeImpossible to install Arlo Go2 camera on Orbi RBK53
The Arlo Go2 camera needs a phone with the Arlo app connected to 2.4GHz. The RBK53 won’t let me choose the network, and the phone always connects to 5GHz. I’m not sure if there’s a way to temporarily disable 5GHz to force the phone onto 2.4GHz for setup. I tried the setup in the Arlo app, but the camera doesn’t chime when scanning the QR code, so I can’t complete the process. The camera worked before, but after the battery ran out and I charged it with a cable, it disappeared from the Arlo app and I’m trying to bring it back. I already have two other Arlo Go2 cameras working fine. Any help on forcing my phone to connect to 2.4GHz would likely let me finish the setup.Orbi RBR50
Sorry if I have selected the "wrong" board, or .... I have the "old" Orbi and a satellite, and I have no problem with them for streaming, Internet, and the like. What I would appreciate information about, though, is suggestions/comments on establishing a Home-only network for security cameras. I do not wish their "signal" to reach the Internet, and so on. I would like routers with the absolute widest range, because I need to mount some cameras on a couple of buildings other than the house. Wired cameras are not a reasonable alternative for what I need. Besides suggestions on the best routers, I would appreciate any information about what wireless cameras to use or to not use. The other buildings are fairly close to the house 20-50 feet, at most. Hopefully, I can get routers (I presume I will surely need more than one) which I can keep in the house and will connect to multi-camera central system. Again, I will appreciate any/all comments and suggestions. Many thanks.Orbi router RBR20 - how do I access a PC on home network while away from home
Hi, I apologise if this is a topic that has been asked before, I cannot find it, if so. I have a Mesh WiFi setup, an RBR20 router, with two RBS20 satellite units. I have connected a small (8-port) switch, via a LAN cable, to the Ethernet port on the router. I can also connect the switch to an Ethernet port on one of the satellite units, all works fine. I can network a couple of servers I have this way, and I connect to them from my laptop. The servers and my laptop are running Linux, but access to the servers is fine. Ping.ssh etc al works flawlessly. My question, and I do not know how to do this, is I want to be able to access one or both of my servers while away from home, again from my laptop. How can I do this? After some research I stumbled upon the information to set up port forwarding on the router. As an example, say one of the servers has an IPMI function, say it has a fixed ip 192168.1.80 (just making the ip up). When I am at home I can connect to this IPMI function from my laptop browser with http://192.168.1.80. But how can I then access the same port/ip when away from home - say from my work place? I setup Port forwarding on router for the IP, e,g, 192.168.1.90 or whatever it will be. But how do I then access this server IP remotely? Many thanks for your helpNo web interface over WiFi; Fine over Ethernet
Hi, I was using a PC connected to Ethernet. I replaced it with a MacBook on WiFi. I had a heck of a time trying to connect to the Orbi (and a Qnap NAS) web interface in a browser on the Mac. I could not. The Orbi app on the iPad worked, but Safari on the iPad could not access the web interface. Things worked when I used a dock to connect my Mac using Ethernet. There is some setting that blocks access over WiFi (for security reasons) to the Orbi and apparently, the NAS. Where is that. I cannot find it. It must be on the Orbi, blocking port 8080 over WiFi? Thx. AlokeSolvedFormer TP-Link DECO Customer switched to NETGEAR Orbi
My product that I used to have was the TP-Link DECO M5. It included the Network Optimization tool in the app that is provided with it to download to your smartphone. The network optimization tool lets you intelligently scan your network to find the best network channel and to clean up the network from devices that are no longer connected. I changed to the Orbi because I felt like it was a better product (Still do), but the Orbi app does not have a similar tool. I have searched everywhere, and I am guessing NETGEAR does not offer it. If anyone knows how I can resolve this or what I can do, please let me know. Thank you, Jesse WilliamsOrbi RBR50 / RBK50 AC3000 V2.7.4.24 Router Site Blocking Just Does Not Work?
Hi, I have an Orbi RBR50 running router firmware V2.7.4.24 with one connected satellite router. Despite my best efforts, I cannot get it to block the websites or keywords that I specify in accordance with the router instructions when logged in as an admin user. I am running circle parental controls also, and this does work, but I need to block the sites at router level because my son keeps creating his own MAC address and bypassing circle. I have also blocked new MAC addresses from joining the network, but he then swaps his MAC address to one of our (his parents) MAC addresses when we are sleeping (he’s a bright spark). Hence, for me to control his sleep, I must be able to block websites at router level; that’s why I chose a NETGEAR Orbi system; to have all these options as he gets cleverer. Can you please help (many other users will know the stress that they have from teenage children accessing content until all hours)? Firmware is updated and I have tried rebooting, different keywords/sites, always blocked and via schedule, nothing works. Thanks for your time. Can't allow Guests to access network
There are times I would like to temporarily allow a guest access to my full network. But the check box for that is disabled. This is on an #RBR50 with 2 #RBS50 satellites. I vaguely recall there was some override for this but now I can't find it. TIA if you can refresh my memory.Solved
