1168 TopicsOS Reinstall worked ... UPS issue?
First off many thanks to Netgear and everyone in this forum...after reading several posts from here...I was able to fix my issue after some initial panic. But I'm wondering what happened or if I have the UPS setup wrong. My RN104 (with 4x8TB drives and latest FW) has been trucking along for almost 10 years with no issues..but last night, our power went out for 5-10 minutes and the unit turned itself off, despite being physically connected to a UPS. I also have a synology NAS connected to same UPS and it has the USB cable connected to it. My Netgear RN104 is monitoring the UPS using the network SNMP connection from the synology. When i powered on the Rn104, it booted up fine to 100% but then totally shut off within 30 seconds. Same thing after several attempts and connecting power directly to wall. I pulled out the drives and when I booted up, it was fine and I could connect to it browser. Put the drives back in, praying for a miracle, but NADA...same behavior, shutdown immediatley following boot up. I started to panic given that Netgear no longer supports Readynas...but I kept reading and researching. Eventually, from the posts here and the Netgear manual, I decided to try the OS reinstall option and that did the trick...I was able to login and deal with minor IP address issues..but no data loss! The logs show when the power went out and came back...but then this entry seems odd: Jun 21, 2025 01:15:42 AM System: The system is shutting down. Jun 21, 2025 01:15:25 AM System: UPS UPS () is forcing shutdown. After I restored, I deleted the UPS SNMP entry(just in case)...but could this be a bug in OS 6 code to read the network UPS? or did I set up wrong? Anyone use a Readynas with SNMP UPS and the codes it receives? No issues on the Synology NAS with the same UPS(via cable) when power came back online. Also wondering if I should start thinking about a replacement/newer unit. But this is my 2nd Netgear ReadyNas I have owned and I think they work perfect for my use cases. Again, many thanks to this community. Sorry for long post...TLDR: Is there something wrong with UPS codes being read by Readynas OS6 or time to replace?66Views0likes5CommentsReadynas Pro 6 - no display, How to factory reset?
I have a ReadyNas Pro 6. Some time ago the display stopped working (pressing the backup button does nothing, nor does it display during boot). Up until now this hasn't been a big deal, but now I want to factory reset it to move past the 16Tb limit (I have 6 x 4 Tb drives in it). Data is backed up, but I need to use the backup button to move through the menu shown on the display. Doing it blind would be OK if I knew what the menus looked like. I also have a Pro Business edition (so near identical) which is my backup to the 6. Could I safely step through the menu on the business and mirror the steps blind on the 6 without screwing up the business (don't want to factory reset it)? The best a search has yielded for me is http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=71844 where someone else has the same issue, but there is no workaround shown. Better - is there some other way eg using Raidar to achieve what I want. Thanks in advance for any help :-)2.7KViews0likes4CommentsReadyNAS NV+ blinking lights
hello, I haven't needed to even think about my ReadyNAS in so long that I forgot everything I ever learned! We had a power outage the other day followed by some brown outs then I am assuming a power surge. When I got home and restarted the ReadyNAS it wasn't cooperative. Here is what it's doing: 2 slow blinks on the first disk light, then three fast blinks of all the lights including the act light and the power light. I am assuming this means disk 1 is dead or dying. I cannot access the ReadyNAS from the network. My plan is to run out and get anew HD and swap it out. Please let me know if I am on the right path or if there is something else wrong. THANKS!7.4KViews0likes10CommentsReadynas NV+ V1 - Mounting OS partition in support mode
Hi All, I'm a newbie to the forum but just wanted a definitive answer on whether it's possible to mount the OS partition from telnet support mode to clear up suspected problem log files. Alternatively, is there a way to enable SSH from telnet support mode. I did see an article on mounting the OS partition from support mode but it needed mdadm which isn't available on the NV+ V1. There were other articles talking about using another command fuse-ext3 but that's not there either. How does the boot loader mount the file system under normal conditions ? Are there alternative commands or is it managed by one of the background daemon processes that run ? I know I can do both from FrontView, but that's my problem at the moment the interface login timesout. I can access shares and do everything else just fine, so I suspect the OS partition may be full and is stopping me connecting the Frontview GUI. Advice appreciated. p.s. I know I can do a full factory reset to clear the logs, but I want to keep my data on there if possible (without having to move it away and back). Thanks in advance.9.7KViews0likes15Commentswindows not showing ReadyNAS name in network

So, this is the second time that this has occurred. Install an app, then when removing it the removal fails and this stops the webportal from loading after boot up. The last time it occurred I had to factory reset the unit. The app in this particular case was Cacti. Would someone like to test this? I have a 102 model on the current software update. Install an app and when it fails to uninstall the webportal fails to load on next boot up.10KViews0likes44CommentsCan't re-install OS or Factory reset 102
I started having a problem with my 102 where it drops off the network within about 20 min. I saw a few people with the same issue but never any real solutions. A few people suggested an OS re-install. I go into the boot menu and according to the documentation I press the backup button until the Disk 2 LED is lit, then press the reset button to start the re-install. It looks like it reboots into this mode but then it just sits there with the power and Act LED on. I waited for about an hour at one point. If i reboot the device it goes back to the original settings like nothing happened. So then i decided to do a factory reset. I didnt want to lose my data so i put in a 1TB drive i wasnt using and started it. On the factory reset all the lights flash for about 10 min like its doing something and then it does the same thing where the power LED and Act LED are on and nothing else. No network activity. I am going to connect the drive to a computer and remove the partions (if any) and then boot the device with a "new" unpartitioned drive to see if it makes any new partitions. Is my unit busted or am I not doing something right? The documentation isn't clear on what is supposed to happen when performing these actions.4.4KViews0likes8CommentsNAS not starting any services #25220444
I had a hard time coming up with a good subject for this problem, since I don't really know what's wrong and how to describe it. Here's the story: Suddenly I noticed that CIFS was not behaving normally. I could browse shares, but not add any files. This can of course be because of a million things, so I figured I try disabling and enabling that service in RAIDiator (4.2.27). So I disabled it and tried enabling it again, but selecting that service and clicking apply does absolutely nothing. The checkbox disappears and nothing more happens. No error message. Weird...? FTP still worked though, at least for browsing. So I restarted the NAS. Then the CIFS service was still off and can't be started and the shares (naturally) disappeared from the network. Uh?! Not only that, but FTP had disabled itself. And, yeah, it won't start either. SSH had stopped working. Addons like Transmission as well won't start. I have Crashplan running on it, which I can't access either, so I don't really know if that starts or not. Browsing via HTTPS still works, so the volume and the shares are still there. Everything looks green. Disks are ok etc. Status display on the front of the NAS seems normal. So I turn to the logs. "No logs exist." Ehh? I try do download all logs anyway and it gives me some XML error message, which I guess is normal when no logs exist. I sure haven't deleted them. So I try the memory test on the boot menu. No problems there. I also try the disk test on the boot menu. Finished fine and the NAS booted up again. So I figure that the OS Reinstall on the boot menu should be able to solve this. Something is very corrupt/weird with how the NAS behaves! I think I managed to download a copy of the settings before I proceeded, since I wasn't sure what would actually be reset, and then I did the OS Reinstall. The only thing that has changed is that the admin password is reset to standard - and I can't even change that. I fill in the fields and try to apply it. And, yes, nothing happens. Then it struck me, maybe it's the browser (Chrome) or something?? So I tried IE as well, but no luck there. Also tried Safari in my phone. I then tried getting SSH to work again by trying to upload that addon file, but I just got "Update file is not valid for this architecture" as error message. So now I'm pretty much stuck here. I'm out of ideas! The NAS says everything is A-OK, but refuses to run anything I want to run on it and it doesn't tell me why. I can't even start rsync, which does not bode well either... Please help! :(7.7KViews0likes47CommentsRN104 Could not properly extract, fireware checksum error
Hi, I've got a little problem with my NAS and an upgrade to 6.2.2.(4x1T hdd in RAID10 - 10% free space in time of upgrade - update) After restart LED shows this information: 1. Booting... 2. Checking root FS 3. Updating FW 4. ERR: Could not properly extract 5. Booting.. roperly extract This happens only when all hdd is in. If all hdd is disconnected from NAS, LED shows this: ERR: Firmware checksum err I've tried this actions: 1. Factory default - w. new hdd - ERR: Firmware checksum err 2. OS reinstall - w. old hdd - ERR: Could not properly extract 3. Mem test - w. old hdd - OK 4. Disk test - w. old hdd - OK Any ideas how to solve this "little" problem?4.4KViews0likes11Comments
