97 TopicsOrbi 770 Not Stable in AP mode
Recently purchased a 770 Orbi System to try in place of an existing Nighthawk router (RAX50v2) to get more coverage. The Nighthawk was in AP mode with our existing Zyxel router. I set up the Orbi to also be in AP mode and so far I cannot get any stability. Devices drop and reconnect every few minutes. I took out the 2 satellites to see if it was something to do with them and even. With just the 770 router connected, I am having difficulty maintaining stable connections. If I put the Orbi in router mode, it seems better but that is not something I want to keep in place. It has to work in AP mode. I will probably return this setup and go with a different mesh network manufacturer but figured I would ask here first before boxing everything back up. I put the Nighthawk back in and all my connections are back working as expected.297Views1like11CommentsOrbi 771 lags every 60 minutes exactly
The previous discussion was reply locked, but I have some more information on the issue that I've been dealing with for the past year and a half. Previous discussion: Orbi RBE771 Latency issues every 60 minutes Every 60 minutes on the dot, my Orbi lags for about 30 seconds. Games become choppy, video calls become choppy, streaming video can also be interrupted. After ~30 seconds, everything returns to normal and my high speeds and low ping resumes. Summarizing my system: Orbi 771 RBR directly connected to NETGEAR CM3000, which is directly connected to COAX into the wall (No Splitter). Xfinity is the internet provider. Orbi 771 RBS is ~30 feet away from the RBR and is one floor above. My computer is connected via Ethernet to the RBR. My work laptop is connected to the RBR. Both my computer, laptop, and phone all experience the issue. Summarizing some of the things tried in the past: - Tried various channels. I'm currently using channel 11 for 2.5 ghz channel and channel 48 for my 5 ghz channel, but I have tried them all - Xfinity tech has come to the house twice in the past year and a half and has seen no issues. - Disabled Guest Network - Disabled 20/40MHz Coexistence - Disabled Armor - Disabled Traffic Meter - Verified and tried different cables and brands. - Factory reset Orbi and Netgear CM3000. - The issue has been present for every single firmware version since October 2024. I have upgraded to each version as they have become available in hopes of it fixing the issue ---- Now getting to the new data. I installed Wireshark and successfully ran a couple captures during the choppiness event and eventual recovery. I then ran the captures through Claude Sonnet 4.6 (Extended) to analyze and graph the issues. Here's what it had to say (with sensitive information redacted with "x" and addresses masked): """ The satellite is the trigger. The LLDP packet at t=28s contains a self-identification that cracks the whole case open. The device at 192.xxx.x.11 (MAC xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:aa) broadcasts its own name and firmware: System name: RBE770 System description: OpenWrt 19.07-SNAPSHOT @ RBE770 That's your Orbi satellite. And it's sending EAPoL (802.1X port authentication) frames to the IEEE multicast address at t=1s, t=9-10s, and t=16s — exactly during the choppy window. These EAPoL frames mean the satellite is re-authenticating its backhaul connection with the main Orbi router. When this happens, the router's DPI engine has to re-examine and re-classify all traffic flowing through the satellite link. That re-classification is what causes the 300-370 ms buffering cycles you see for the entire first 19 seconds. At t=19s, re-authentication finishes, the DPI engine settles, and packets start flowing smoothly. This also explains the DHCP failure: a device (MAC xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:bb) sent two DHCP Discovers at t=9.8s and t=12.8s asking for 192.xxx.x.22, and the router never replied. The satellite's backhaul disruption was breaking DHCP forwarding too — it wasn't just gaming that was affected. Diagnosis: the 60-minute timer is the satellite backhaul lease The Orbi satellite's wireless backhaul uses a timed connection interval. Every ~60 minutes it re-syncs with the main router, which triggers EAPoL re-authentication. That re-authentication is what kicks the DPI engine into the buffering state. It's not a QoS database refresh from the internet — the trigger lives entirely inside your own home network. """ I have lots of data and charts I am trying to attach here as well, but it's unfortunately not letting me attach an image to this post. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what I can do to resolve the issue, but it's had a large impact on my work and recreation over the past year and a half so I am hoping this increased data helps lead to a resolution.414Views1like10CommentsOrbi 770 keeps disconnecting
I got an Orbi 770 with two satellites for 800$+ 8 months back (RBE770/RBE771). I got it imagining that this is a high end product and will give me stable Wi-Fi and connectivity for my whole home. It was all good for the first two and a half months, then the issues started popping. All my devices started seeing random Wi-Fi disconnects multiple times a day. I suspect it happens during the transition point between my router and satellite but I'm not sure. My phone for example keeps disconnecting and reconnecting often even when I'm in the same place on my bed. I followed all the troubleshooting steps that I can find online and in Reddit and simply am unable to fix the issue. The Orbi app says that I cannot reach out to customer care or create an online support case for this issue. I feel like Netgear is holding me hostage after taking 850 plus dollars. So, out of desperation to make my router work and since I cannot afford another router I am reaching out to this community for help fix my Wi-Fi. Below are all the troubleshooting steps that I've tried but I still have random Wi-Fi disconnects: Use Wi-Fi backhaul to connect all three router+2sats. (Tried this to eliminate any issues with ethernet cable) Use ethernet cables , my house had it wired to connect all three devices. ( Tried this to eliminate any issues with Wi-Fi connectivity between devices) Confirm that the three devices are at least 40 ft apart from each other.(General recommendation I see online) Use only two devices, one router one satellite. ( Just another test in case my router and satellites are close to each other, Made sure they are at least 50 plus feet apart. Use multiple phones ( to double check it's not my phone specific issue) Restarted my phone, laptop, router, satellites multiple times. Factory reset my Orbi router and satellites Update to latest firmware Disable IPv6 Revert firmware version to v10.5.18.3 (some reddit threads mention this version to be functional and fixing issues) Confirmed there is no VPN on phone. Disabled Mac randomizer on phone and devices All about did not fix my issue and I don't have hope on being able to reach Netgear for help. Can someone from this community help me in this issue? Is it in hardware issue or some bad software update?692Views1like4CommentsSatellites aren't picking up any devices
I just purchased another RBE770 to connect to my existing mesh network to work a perceived coverage issue. I have a 3 story home with approximately 2400 square feet per floor. The new device is incapable of finding any satellites in the network. I drilled into the 2 satellites and see they are carrying none of the devices in the house. I attempted to open a ticket with the new satellite to see if I could get it to event connect to the mesh and it can't find any devices. The new satellite is 15 feet from one of the other satellites. I can see the 2 theoretically working satellites in the orbit app. I attempted to open a support ticket with the bot. It took the serial number of the device and when I tried to select it from the bot all my devices are now missing. Is there any way to actually get to a human before I replace this equipment. Are there any suggestions for what to check to see why all the devices in my house are only capable of connecting to a router in my basement instead any of the 3 satellites distributed throughout the house? I am absolutely unimpressed with their equipments performance and inability to get any support. I have been using netgear equipment for many years and it seems they no longer are capable of supporting their products.356Views1like7Comments771 LAG issues
I have exactly the same issue, the router lags on the same minute every hour (From when it is booted), I've tried everything, every new FW for the last 11 months, disabled IPV6, Armor, Traffic Meter etc, I am an electronic engineer by profession and I know my network setup and ISP is good. I bought this for my family that games everyday and the lag is very infuriating when online gaming, this router was supposed to be an upgrade from our RBR750 mesh, I have tried our PCs hardwired into the satellites and over WiFi but the issue persists on both connection types, I have bought Netgear routers for around 20 yrs now as they have been very stable with no issues but the RBE77 1 is this worst experience I have ever had. I've been holding on for a FW fix however since the problem has not been fixed with any FW update this year I'm now at the point of switching brands for the first time in 20 yrs.284Views1like3CommentsOrbi 770 – WiFi Drops Every Hour
At the beginning of the year, I posted in this forum about hourly interruptions with my ORBI770 mesh system. At the time, other users were experiencing similar problems, and I worked with Netgear Support to identify and solve the issue. Unfortunately, the past 8–9 months have been unsuccessful... Recently, I have read less from others with the same problem. Perhaps the problem has been solved for others, or they have switched to a different vendor. Unfortunately, the problem has not yet been solved for me, and I am still regularly writing to Netgear Support and uploading logs. Unfortunately, without a qualified answer or solution. Over the past few days, I have tried a number of troubleshooting measures, such as: Adjusting NTP to a different NTP server Deactivating DHCP on ORBI and providing it on a Linux server Disabling private MAC addresses on all Apple devices and so on ... Unfortunately, none of this has been successful and I still experience hourly interruptions. I have now provided ChatGPT with the information and uploaded the log files, and received the response in the pdf attached to this post. I am aware that ChatGPT is often wrong and often just writes nonsense (e.g. firmware version, which are not available). But maybe it points in the right direction, since Netgear Support doesn't feel responsible for simply analysing log files. I also installed uptime-kuma on my computer and pinged various devices over the last few hours. I can only set the pings to every 20 seconds, so it doesn't catch all the hourly interruptions. However, you can see the pattern. In the first three screenshots, I marked the interruptions at xx:03 / xx:04 in red. In the last three screenshots, I ping the router and satellites (all wired). I find it interesting that the satellites respond faster than the router. But perhaps that is normal behaviour. Am I alone, or do others still have the same problem? Thanks. Purchased RBE771 and RBE770 as a set in October 2024. Satellite started disconnecting from router in August 2025. These are the first issues I've had with a Netgear satellite repeatedly disconnecting. Seems to happen weekly.Satellite is 10 feet from the router on the floor above in a wood-framed home with gypsum board walls. There was no problem with the satellite connection prior. Have purchased and used three other Netgear mesh WIFI products in this same location configuration since February 2020. This is the first issue I've had with a satellite repeatedly disconnecting. Seems to happen weekly. The satellite shows a purple light. This set was not cheap and shouldn't be malfunctioning less than a year after purchase. Unable to return or replace due to Netgear warranty policy. Surely Netgear doesn't expect customers to spend $450 every year for a new mesh WIFI system?153Views1like3CommentsOrbi 770 keeps disconnecting Smart Home devices even with 2.4 GHz
Just installed the Orbi 770 with 2 satellites to completely cover the house. IoT WiFi is enabled with 2.4 GHz only. All the smart home devices (Ring cameras, Google Home, etc) when connected will have great signal and works flawlessly. But for whatever reason, the devices will disconnect randomly (usually once a day) and the network map will show that the router and satellite is working but the smart home devices will not (re)connect unless I reboot the router. How can I keep them connected? Is there an advanced setting I am overlooking or is this a defective product?730Views1like6CommentsIPv6 Activation With Verizon FiOS
With the Orbi router (and previous Netgear routers) I found the only way to activate IPv6 is first use Auto Config. This will then default to 6to 4 Tunnel and give you a Router's IPv6 Address On LAN. Then do Auto Config and you will have IPv6. This may work on other Fiber systems. I also found for my Android phone (Galaxy S25) I needed to Enable RIPng to get IPv6 to work.1KViews1like32CommentsORBI R760R with one satellite
I have bought the ORBIRR760R less than 6 months ago to replace another ORbI with wife issues. A week ago it was in and out of the internet. My service provider spent then one hour and more with me in the phone to do a factory reset to check the setting, unplugged the modem, router, satellite. It worked. Yesterday morning Orbi went offline and then it came back with the central unit, but the satellite went off. I reset the satellite, then unplugged everything multiple times, etc with no success. Only the area close to the central has WIFI. It also disconnects from the phone wifi and cuts it out. I read the notes in the community chat to FURRRYe38 etc and followed their steps. This morning I unplugged everything including the cables and restarted the modem the central unit, etc. it worked for a little moment and then the satellite was out again, then the phone went off, and now it is in again, I restarted the modem, the ORBI and write from desktop and the satellite cannot be detected by the ORBI app. What else is there to do? Thx Christoph145Views1like1Comment
