1 TopicNeed recommendations
Normally I rent the equipment from my ISP but I hate eero (which is the only option for renting) and want to get away from it because it's only controlled via apps and I don't do apps. I need some recommendations. Here is how I plan to use the equipment: Whatever router I go with, I need to be able to connect to it via my desktop computer by typing in the router's ip address the old-school way. I like to be able to turn wireless on or off when I want to, or change the signal strength, and I only want to access it via desktop computer. First I plan to purchase modem and router, or a modem/router combo, to use with ISP #1, who has fiber in the ground that connects to a box that switches to coax cable for final delivery to the house, and therefore we would connect said equipment to the coax. Coax and ethernet cable are in the walls. Then, we will be switching to ISP #2 later; they are currently installing fiber in our neighborhood, and they may end up running fiber all the way to the house so that coax is no longer used for final delivery. If this is the case, will I need to change my equipment or is there equipment I can buy that can do both? And I've read that maybe I should buy modem and router separately instead of doing them as a combo; why is that? Oh and our speed will either be the 500 or 1000 plan. Thanks for any advice provided, much appreciated!23Views0likes6Comments
