X-RAID Disk Failure During Resynch
Hi there, I have had a search for the answer to this one, but no joy. I have an RN104 (2 x 3TB & 1 x 2TB) that had a (3TB) disk failure. I was using JBOD, but decided to move to X-RAID after realising I'd have to restore the whole backup. With X-RAID, I can just replace the disks. So in went two new WD Red 4 TB disks and I left my old 3Tb & 2Tb disks in the machine. Started off a resynch & also started to restore my data. I then noticed that I was getting hardware errors from the other 3Tb disk. The restore was stalling and so was the resynch. I pulled the faulty 3Tb disk and everything went back to normal and the restore completed. However the NAS is telling me that the resynch is complete, but the disks are degraded. I'm assuming that's because it wants to see that second faulty disk back? After buying those reds I've got no cash to replace the 2nd 3Tb drive. I have plenty of space with just the 2 x 4Tb & the 2Tb. Is there any way to tell the NAS that I want to reduce the overall volume size? In terms of replacing that 3TB drive - can I replace it with a 2TB drive, or do I need to replace like for like? TL;DR - How can I downsize the volume by removing a disk from an X-RAID configuration without the NAS complaining about degraded disks? Thanks in advance! Ian.Solved2.3KViews0likes3Comments
