24 TopicsSmart Parent Controls not blocking VPN
I have an RBR850 three unit mesh system with Smart Parent Controls subscription. I just learned today that even though I have my kids profiles set to disable internet at 11pm, they can still connect a VPN and access anything. Under Content Level - Categories, the VPNs and Proxies are also blocked full time in their profile. After catching them and taking away all their devices indefinitely, they admitted to being able to do this as long as they can remember, so this isn’t a new bug. This is super disappointing for a product this expensive. Basically the parental controls are completely worthless, and worse, it doesn’t even show usage on their profile.1.1KViews1like1CommentRAX48 Smart Parental Controls Not Tracking Time
Hi, I have owned the RAX48 router for about a year and decided to start the free trial of the Smart Parental Controls on 10/13/2021. Initially the time was not being tracked on the first day, I took it for a glitch as it was resolved after a reboot. I noticed that the Usage section of the app was not reporting any time under Apps & Websites, but was showing time reporting in Categories. I put it down to a glitch and since it was working, I wouldn't worry about it. As of 10/26/2021, the router misreported tracking time for any of the profiles for my children on the network. Initially the time would track and then not pause access to the internet once a time limit was reached. We were seeing sites being accessed in the Usage section of the app, even after the time limit was reached. This appeared to be resolved after a reboot, since the usage was then recognized and each profile was paused until the next day. As of 10/27/2021, the router stopped tracking completely and showed that all profiles had 0 minutes of use. We are also seeing no usage tracked and I can only assume that there is no blocking on restricted sites. To attempt to resolve this issue on 10/27/2021 I performed a firmware update to V1.0.4.100_2.0.64. I then created a backup of the router settings and performed a "Revert to factory default settings". After restoring the backup after the initial setup, I reconnected my app to the SPC and the profiles were loaded. As I write this, there has been no traffic tracked on any of the children's profiles. There is neither time tracked, or usage tracked. Ironically I had been happy with my experience up until now and was planning to pay for an annual subscription. Unless this can be resolved soon, I shall have to look into another solution. Please let me know if there is anything I can supply to aid in the troubleshooting of this issue. Extreme disappointment today, paid a hefty price to upgrade to the Orbi ax6000 to find that it does not have circle (which circle confusingly states is available on Orbi systems) or any parental controls for that matter. Was upgrading from NightHawk r7800 due to wanting better parental control - the r7800 at least has the basic parental control feature - Orbi ax6000 offers access control, but ZERO PARENTAL CONTROL OPTIONS. Sadly, the Orbi will have to be returned. NetGear needs to fix the false claim that Circle is available on Orbi Systems to clearly state that Circle is only available on specific orbi models. It would also be nice to know if Circle features were in development for a future firmware release, but that information cannot be found either.1.7KViews3likes1CommentOrbi RBR50 - Manage Circle Admin Passcode SMS not received
I am trying to enable Circle Parental control on my Orbi RBR50 Router. I have both apps installed on an iPhone. When i launch the Circle app and click "I am the only admin", it tries to send the passcode, but I am not getting any passcodes. Please help. We were setting up the Chromebook for school on the 9 y/o's device. She has filtered/restricted settings in her circle. We were trying to set up Google Meet and kept getting the same error each time. HSTS error "Your connection is not private," "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID," I removed the device from her circle and put it into an unfiltered group and it works fine now. Anyone have any ideas how I can move it back to her appropriate circle so I can ensure she has the appropriate filters and restrictions on this device? It looks like the kid specific filters prevent it from working, but this is how they're doing all their schoolwork this year so I need to find a happy medium. All help text says to just accept the certificate or manually bypass, but the kid friendly features of Circle seem to prevent those items from even appearing, so I can't find any good way to resolve this. i searched the forum and the only issue I found that was similar were people that experienced this issue and simply moved it to an un-restricted circle... probably because they're not 9 y/o's with poor impulse control. Thanks so much, Chris3.7KViews1like6CommentsCircle Home Plus
Hey, So, I recently moved from a Nighthawk R7000 I'd been using for several years to an Orbi system. I'm in general happy with the Orbi...but I've run into difficulty in setting the parental controls back up. In particular, I've been using Circle, and Circle Go for my kids portable devices. However, I seem to be unable to set the Circle Go back up...and from looking at the Circle support, it sounds like they're phasing Circle with Disney out, in favor of their new "Circle Home Plus". Given that Circle with Disney has been and is an important selling point for these routers, what is the plan for Circle support in the future? Will the Circle software be upgraded to allow us to move to the new Circle Home Plus? I really am loathe to purchase some other device to support parental controls after shelling out on the Orbi's, and I'm a bit disappointed to find Netgear still touting the Circle with Disney as though it's a viable alternative when it really seems not to be going forward. Can anyone shed any light on any of this? Thanks!7.4KViews1like8Comments"Can't connect to Circle" / "Not connected to Circle!"
Circle's been running FINE for weeks. All of a sudden starting a couple of weeks ago - it doesn't work - can't connect from either my Yoga tablet or my Samsung Galaxy S8 (both Android, neither's updated their OS recently, I've not updated the Netgear firmware recently either). I haven't changed a THING. Have tried rebooting the Nighthawk X6 R8000 (yes, including unplugging it for a full minute). Have fully disabled Parental Controls and then re-enabling it. I've uninstalled and re-installed the app on the tablet, no success. I see other people've had this problem but don't see a solution (yet) in searching through it. I do NOT understand why "RECONNECT" is so useless. (I'd also like a refund of a month of fees! :-)).4.8KViews1like4CommentsNumerous Unknown Devices
There is a device on my network that must be able to spoof MAC addresses. I have several tentants on my network so just asking who is doing it is not an option. At least twice a day a new Unknown device joins the network. Every MAC address is different. Is there a way to block all new connections to stop this from happening?1.9KViews0likes1Comment
