Network Monitor not tracking wireless with 5ghz off
As it says in the title, the OS does not recognize any data flow with 5ghz disabled. I have no need of 5ghz so I keep it off but 2.4ghz is on and my mobile is connected to it. Also, the Device Manager shows my wireless as being offline on the Network Map. What gives? If I could suggest, a simple solution to this would be to seperate the wireless into the two wavelengths. V2.2.1.10Hardwire the EX7000 instead of wirelessly connecting to the router?
I’m going to try my best to explain my current situation as best as possible since I’m not entirely tech savvy or literate. My current situation is that there are devices that need to be hardwired but the devices are located in separate rooms. One device in my room and one in my brother’s. Now I know that I can use the EX7000 to wirelessly connect to my router and just use the Ethernet ports but doing that cuts down on download speeds. So I was wondering if I can use the Ethernet port in my room and plug the extender into that so I won’t have to wirelessly connect to the router? The current set up is that we have Frontier FiOS and the ONT box is located in our garage. Not sure what that means but the employee from BestBuy said it acts as the modem so that all the Ethernet ports our house can support a router without the need of an actual modem. So currently, all we currently have the Nighthawk X6 plugged into the Ethernet port in my brother’s room and is producing a Wifi signal with internet. We now both have desktops that have no Wifi adapters. So in order to use the internet on our computer we need to be wired. We used to share a room so it was never a problem since the router was in our room but now that we have our own rooms, he kept the router while I have no possible way of accessing internet via wired connection. Since we both game, we prefer a wired connection overall for the best performance. Hence the reason why we never purchased a Wifi adapter for our PC. While trying to look up a solution for my problem, I was constantly seeing answers like using the EX7000 as an access point. However, instructions say to plug it in to a router, which defeats my purpose of buying the extender in the first place since the extender would need to be located in my brother’s room. So long story short, can I hardwire the EX7000 using the Ethernet port in my room so that it can provide internet to my devices that need to be hardwired into the extender?PS4 Pro Wont Connect to the 5GHz Signal
So I just recently purchased the Orbi RBK40 router and I noticed you cannot separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi signals through normal methods. I was told that the router has a system or program that automatically pushes the best connection possible. All the devices that support a 5GHz connection seem to connect just fine. However, there are two PS4 Pros in the house and the router refuse to connect it to the 5GHz conncetion. Under my network settings on both PS4 Pro say they are on a 2.4 GHz conncetion. Even under the router GUI it says that it's connected to the 2.4 GHz conncetion. I've been trying to look up methods on how to connect it mannually but no luck. I found a post that teaches how to separate the SSIDs for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz and it worked, however the devices that were connceting to the 5GHz were experincing lag issues and would not have a consistent download rate. I usually average between 145-150 Mbps download when I don't split the SSIDs. However, when they are separate SSIDs, the download ranges from 6-130 Mbps and is never consistent. Not to mention, when the SSIDs are split, the PS4s seems to disconnect from the router frequently. Long story short, is there a way to connect the PS4 Pro to the 5GHz connection?
Trying to set up DG834N router as wireless access point for an ethernet printer across Virgin WiFi.
Hello all. I've spent the last few days trawling the advice and instructions given on the web and attempting to complete this task, with much unplugging, replugging and typing of ip addresses. It seems there are lots of tutorials to set this system up with the 2nd router/access point finally being connected via ethernet to the main router but I can't do that at present and I want to know if the 2nd router/access point can be set up wirelessly? Firstly I'm Mac based OS 10.11 with a Virgin SuperHub2 as my main router and here's what i'm trying to do. I have an old DG834N router. My iMac is in my basement and my virgin router is in the room above. The iMac networking is via wifi and works fine across the dual bands. I don't have wired cabling down into my basement & I suspect the electrical ring is seperate to that above ground and therefore powerlines may not work. I recently acquired a ethernet printer (HP officejet 4500 G510g). I want to set up the DG834N as a wireless access point/repeater/bridge in order to connect the ethernet printer and then access this via the iMac and as a networked printer? I've been into the DG834N and done a factory reset (a few times), updated the firmware, set the LAN ip details to match my main virgin router SSID, WPA2, Password, Channel, disabled DCHP and selected a WDS system, most times as a wireless repeater. The furthest I have got is setting up all these details and then attempting to find the printer on the network on my iMac. I presume I need to create a second wifi setting in my network settings with a static ip address and subnet to match the DG834N settings. On occasion the iMac has seen the printer but when I try to install the printer it can't because of network issues as the second static ip address has seemingly 'knocked out' or conflicted with the original 2.4ghz wifi. When I try and seperate the wifi details it changes both at the same time i.e if I try to set the main wifi to 5G it changes the printer wifi to 5G too and the router/printer will only use 2.4g. I've tried to set up a seperate location in my network setting but it still behaves the same way. Also I get frequent, 'another device is using this ip address' messages. I have also re-booted my main router a few times and slowly restarted each device one by one. Oh and I've also connected the printer directly to the iMac to install it in a hope that this would facilitate things if I solved the network problems. Unfortunately I cannot leave the printer directly connected to the iMac permanently as there's not enough space, cabling, power etc. I realise there's a lot of different stumbling blocks (Gotcha's?) in this setup but I'd appreciate any help you can give. I've recently installed an EX6400 into my home network for both extending my wifi range and the ethernet connection to an older Samsung SmartTV without a wireless connection. My main router is an Xfinity Arris TG1682G operating in both 2.4 and 5GHz ranges and separated by different SSID's at the main router. I am having a twofold problem. First, my Google ChromeCast attached to the TV will not connect to either the 2.4 or 5G extended networks when I turn the TV on. However, if I turn the extender off and then on again, the ChromeCast is able to find and connect to the router. At the same time, the ethernet connection to the TV stays live and has no connectivity issues when the set is turned on. Secondly, all of my other devices will give an "Internet not available" message until the extender is power cycled, then all is well until the connections go dormant, then I have to go through the power down cycle again (if I'm away for an hour or more). Now the Arris TG1682G does not see the EX6400 as an Extender but I have set it up as a static IP within the modem domain. All firmware is up to date. I am ready just to return it and go with an entirely different set-up, either MoCA or powerline so this my last ditch effort.JNR3000: Wired speed fine, Wireless slow download & fast upload
Hi all, Since a couple of weeks I've noticed my Netgear JNR3000, the second router in the household, puts through extremely low download speed but decent upload speed when connected through WiFi; Speedtest gives 0.6 Mbps download, 18 Mbps upload, whereas the wired Speedtest shows 30Mbps/29Mbps as it should. I found these results when there was no other device connected to any of my routers. Also tested with multiple smartphones and laptops. The wireless results are the same everywhere throughout the house, even next to the JNR3000. The router uses the 'latest' firmware (V1.1.0.29_1.0.1), DHCP is activated (192.168.3.x where Router1 operates on 192.168.2.x) and the WiFi security settings are set to WPA2-PSK [AES]. Channel is currently set to Auto and Mode is set to 300Mbps. See the extremely detailed schematic overview below. I've already tried the basic stuff after browsing this forum; a hard reset (30-30-30), changing channels (most importantly a different channel than Router1 operates on, but evading other channels used in the area as well), disabling 20/40Mhz coexistence, Disabling QoS, disabling WMM, Fragmentation Length and CTS/RTS threshold set to 2342, switching Preamble mode to Short (from Long), RIP Direction set to Both and RIP Version set to 1 (although I really don't know what the optimal RIP settings are in this setup), disabling Guest mode (which is activated from time to time), making sure no microwaves etc. are near. Is there any chance of getting back to decent WiFi speeds (such as 20Mbps/20Mbps as it used to be) or is it time to replace my JNR3000? Are there hidden settings in Router1 (Arcadyan VGV7519 aka Experia Box v8) that forbid the JNR3000 from using maximum download speed when connected to WiFi? Thanks in advance, Alex
