Bridge Mode?

Does this modem come from the factory in Bridge mode? I'm having problums port forwarding. I have set up the netgear router

(AC1200) with no luck on any ports. I did the activation thru Xfinity.

Re: Bridge Mode?

CM series model modem are only modems. So no bridge mode. No built in router like the C series modems.

It's a modem, not a modem+router.  But why trust me?  Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.

   A modem-only device like a CMxxx should not affect port forwarding;
that's a router function.  What, exactly, is your "the netgear router
(AC1200)"? "AC1200" is a speed, not a model.  Look at the product
label.  Firmware version?

What kind of problems?  "problems" or "no luck" is not a useful
problem description.  It does not say what you did.  It does not say
what happened when you did it.  As usual, showing actual actions with
their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more
helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Is there some actual problem which you are trying to solve?

Re: Bridge Mode?

So this modem can not be put in Bridge mode? Therefor I can never port forward? I know it is not a router but if the modem is

not in bridge mode my router will not port forward because the modem is blocking. Thanks for the reply.

No, it has no other mode.  It's always only a modem.

A modem+router (like a model Cxxxx) typically has a "bridge"
(modem-only) mode, but a modem-only (model CMxxx) is only a modem.  If
you want to call that a "bridge" mode, you can, but that's the only mode
it has.  You don't need to _put_ it into that mode.

   Still true.

Re: Bridge Mode?

The CM does not have any router or NAT, so it doesn't need or support bridging. If you connect a wifi router, then you can do your port forwarding there. The modem isn't blocking any ports.

Bridge mode is only seen and used on modems with Built in router. The model you have doesn't have a router built in.

Re: Bridge Mode?

Please post in the NG router forum for your model NG router.

Also review the user manual for your model NG router for configuration information.

Good Luck.

Re: Bridge Mode?

Everyone keeps saying it’s “only a modem”; even tech support. Which is what I want. There is defiantly NAT going on. Even the docs say to put my router into bridge mode which makes all router functions useless. Even the router says there is a double NAT problem...

It would appear that the ‘PnP’ part of this only plays nice with NETGEAR routers.

It’s going back if I can’t get this resolved.

Re: Bridge Mode?

Again, the CM series modems are modems only. There is NO NAT or router functions here. You only get built in router or NAT functions with C series modems.

Possible your main host router isnt' configured correctly. Contact the Mfr of the main host router for additional help and support.

If the CM modem isn't working, try a different CM modem. The CM1000 would be a better modem. The CM500 is an intel based chip set modem which there are known problems with this chip set Mfr:

The CM1000 is a broadcom based chip set modem.

Re: Bridge Mode?

It's going back. Everything works fine on the modem that I have that is about 10 years old. Just it's not longer supported by cox;  though it still works.

It really is a poor product and a collosal waste of my time. I was on the phone with tech support for 40 minutes last night and they concluded it was the Apple Airport Extreme was the problem. Though it works fine with the old modem.

I will definately let bestbuy know it's a poor product also...

Re: Bridge Mode?

Ya, ok. Sounds like this is  apple router issue. Probably a mis-configuration or incompatibility issue. The CM modem works for others so I doubt NG is entirely to blame.

Good Luck.

Re: Bridge Mode?

Well, I think it’s the typical tactic of shifting responsibility to another manufacturer to get you off the phone. If I unplug one modem and put another in its place and things are now misconfigured? I put it back the way it was and it works?

We are dealing with different layers of OSI model that should even affect this.

Re: Bridge Mode?

So do you get internet with a PC that is directly wired to the CM modem when it's online? If you do then thats not NG's problem. If you don't then either the configuration is bad on your PC, the LAN cable could be bad or the CM modem is faulty and needs to be replaced. You'll have to try these to determine this.
