What did you do before you got asked for a password? Who's asking?
Are you talking to Comcast/Xfinity or to your CM1150V? What, exactly,
is on your display?
> [...] The provided password on new unit is "password " [...]
The "admin" password for the CM1150V is "password". I doubt that
the password for your Comcast/Xfinity account is "password".

A clear description of what does happen would be more useful than a
vague description of what does not happen.

"cannot" is not a useful problem description. It does not say what
you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.
"wifi"? A CM1150V is a modem; it has no wireless capability (on its
own).

Have you tried the obvious?:

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read?
