Comcast change broke CM2000

Hi All,

This is very similar to https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable-Modems-Gateways/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-CM2000-Internet-does-not-work-on-connected/td-p/2171343

but a little different.  Hoping to get help/advice if you've had similar experience.

A couple of weeks ago, Comcast advised of "changes in neighborhood", and after that happened, my CM2000 would no longer provide an IP address to my connected Cisco RV345 router.

Then, after Comcast replaced the "boot file" on the modem, the router would get an IP address, and would be able to resolve DNS names, but would fail to ping any resolved name.

Direct-connecting the CM2000 to a PC worked, and the PC was online.

I finally got Comcast to visit on-site.  They swapped the CM2000 for a Comcast modem (with all of the WiFi and fancy stuff that I don't want + the monthly rental), and everything worked again.

The CM2000 was working great before the change, but they won't tell me what changed on the network.

Any ideas on getting my CM2000 back online so that I can return the Comcast modem?

Many thanks in advance!

  • If the cm2000 worked fine directly connected to the modem---pc route, i wouldn't be suspecting the modem. I'd be looking at the router closer.
