Network Speed

Why has my network speed suddenly dropped from 900 Mbps to a constant 100 Mbps on my Netgear router? Seeking advice on troubleshooting steps or potential settings adjustments to restore optimal speed performance. I have wpa3, guest network, and I am using Cloudflare dns server 1.1.1.2 1.0.0.2 2606:4700:4700:0000:0000:0000:0000:6400 as well as 9.9.9.9 for gaming with vpn and netgear armor. Started experiencing this issue 2 days ago after a web server host made total 50+ port scan attempts on my Alexa device

What is the deal with the "said that the switch panel was defective on my unit" Is this regarding LAN ports on the CAX30 or the game console?

Re: Network Speed

It’s the lastest… I quadruple checked, a few times including downloading the current firmware file recently just to validate it matched what is listed on the app and admin… I was told wpa3 would not affect speeds… in addition to that I did put cloudflare for dns ipv4 “1,2”and ipv6 with 9.9.9.9 as the 3rd ipv4 so 1.1.1.2 1.0.0.2 9.9.9.9 and 2600:4700:4700:”0000x4”:6400 other than armor that’s the only user settings that might have potentially affected the network speed I can think of

These are repeated many times in the event log, but I think I got the different log messages, I however don’t speak whatever language it’s in 😕

Event log, the brief time that the network has existed is alarmingly active… or a warning and critical that’s repeated many times, I think related to the dhcp issue

Copy and paste to a word processor program, do a search and replace to edit them out.  At least the first three or last three octets.

I had to utilize the iPhone note, but the boxes and grid didn’t copy over. Additionally, it appears that Xfinity isn’t sending communication to my device, with crucial data missing. As a result, I’ve scheduled a tech appointment for this Wednesday.

Re: Network Speed

The log does look bad.  Tech visit is entirely appropriate.

Be sure and check your power supply cord, plugs, and etc.  The CAX30 may need a firmware refresh for both sides.

Re: Network Speed

I googled some things earlier after looking at the log and contacted Xfinity yet again with more details about these issues and declined offers for their modem and basic diagnostics and finally on this 3rd support chat with them they told me that “ the boot file needs to be updated which the higher level team can only do“ xfinity rep… also said that they would be doing that within the next few hours so fingers crossed! So, yeah, a software error.

Re: Network Speed

Power levels look good:

https://kb.netgear.com/24311/Power-level-guidelines-for-a-NETGEAR-cable-modem-router

Correctables and Un-correctables are zeros which is also good.

Any Criticals, Errors or Warnings seen in the event logs needs to be reviewed and resolved by the ISP. Indicates a signal issue on the ISP line up to the modem.

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Start with removing any amplifiers, signal attenuators, or splitters from the coax.
From there check the line for kinks, damage, moisture in the line.
Check the connectors for improperly made ends, foil touching the copper coax line, loose connections, bad/old/cheap connectors, or corroded connections. Replace them if you do.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

Re: Network Speed

Your power levels are OK, if anything they are on the high side.

Of course your correctable/uncorrecable values are zero, your device has an up time of 10 minutes!  These values reset to zero when you reboot.

The modem side of your device has firmware that only your ISP can update.  The router side has firmware that the user can update/refresh.  Go to the downloads section at the top of this page, put in your model number and check/download the most recent router firmware.

Attempting to configure or troubleshoot a modem/gateway via a mobile device is an exercise in pure frustration.  There is a real chance you cannot get there from here.  If you know someone with a computer you could use, it would be very helpful.

FURRYe38 and Kitsap, upon doing all of this, phone spiked at 930 Mbps consistently on the speed test app although conflict with the Nighthawk app… the PS5 is the same but the new ethernet I ordered a few days ago arrives in hours! Not sure how I overlooked that newer firmware and it did appear like Xfinity made adjustments to the settings or at least I noticed updates to the event log and there were no errors! Tyvm!!!!

Re: Network Speed

Error messages started appearing again in the event log and the ps5 never got over 435 Mbps, but the Xfinity tech will be here today and Netgear is also reviewing the logs. Xfinity is coming based off of possible issues that I found on this link yesterday not paying attention to who actually was making the recommendations lol

Fingers crossed that, as Xfinity loves to say, “they will find a permanent solution for this issue” Right.
