D6400 and a landline?
As some people in my house arent willing to part with it and i dont want to buy another router that used
We previously had one that let us use the landline with our network just want to upgrade it

The D6400 works with both ADSL and VDSL over phone line, so yes should be compatible.
Which ISP are you? Some providers, like Sky in the UK, will need you to extract your username and password from their modem and then send it using option 61 in the Netgear modem
If your fibre optic comes all the way to the house then this modem/router does also have a WAN port so that you can connect it to a cable/fibre modem

What sort of fibre? To the home (FTTH)? Or to the cabinet (FTTC), the box up the road?
Is there a copper wire on the final leg? If so, you have FTTC and, as clithes says, you probably have VDSL, which is fine for the D6400.
I have one running on BT Infinity. A piece of cake to set up.
Not sure about the reference to a phone. That's not the modem's problem.
