Re: D6400 and a landline?

The D6400 works with both ADSL and VDSL over phone line, so yes should be compatible.

Which ISP are you?  Some providers, like Sky in the UK, will need you to extract your username and password from their modem and then send it using option 61 in the Netgear modem

If your fibre optic comes all the way to the house then this modem/router does also have a WAN port so that you can connect it to a cable/fibre modem

Details of both are in the installation guide, found here

Full User Manual here

Hope this helps

What sort of fibre? To the home (FTTH)? Or to the cabinet (FTTC), the box up the road?

Is there a copper wire on the final leg? If so, you have FTTC and, as clithes says, you probably have VDSL, which is fine for the D6400.

I have one running on BT Infinity. A piece of cake to set up.

Not sure about the reference to a phone. That's not the modem's problem.
