D7000 (V1.0.1.50_1.0.1) Frozen
D7000 (V1.0.1.50_1.0.1) Frozen
Judging from various (non-router) system logs, my D7000
(V1.0.1.50_1.0.1) froze solid during the night. When I found it in the
morning, all the normal LEDs were solid white (no sign of activity). I
got no response (time-outs) from either Telnet or HTTP. Cycling the
power seems to have restored normal operation.
Apparently, this thing has no (effective) watchdog timer, so if it
goes nuts, it completely stops communicating, so that there's no way for
any kind of external soft reset to be done. Yet another fine Netgear
design feature? Anyone else seeing this? (So far, it's happened only
once, that I've noticed, but once is more than enough.)

Re: D7000 (V1.0.1.50_1.0.1) Frozen
Figuring that Newer must be Better, I updated the firmware to
V1.0.1.54_1.0.1. Roughly 24 hours later, the DSL disconnected. A
manual Connect action restored the connection. (ADVANCED > Connection
Status > Connect.)
Other interesting facts about V1.0.1.54_1.0.1:
Using the web interface, "debug_mbm.htm" > EnableTelnetServer still
leads to a pinkish "403 Forbidden" error page ("setup.cgi").
When enabled, the Telnet interface now requires real user credentials
(such as "admin" and the "admin" password) instead of none. The Release
Notes file says:
New Features and Enhancements:
o Security Enhancement.
One can only imagine whether that refers to the Telnet credentials
change, or to something else.
Looking at recent firmware release kits reveals less organization in
the making of the kits, too:
pro3$ ls -1 *.zip
D7000_FW_V1.0.1.48_1.0.1.zip
D7000_FW_V1.0.1.50_1.0.1.zip
D7000_FW_V1.0.1.54_1.0.1.zip
D7000_V1.0.1.52_1.0.1_FW.zip
Establishing, and then following, one naming convention might be an
improvement. Just a thought.

Re: D7000 (V1.0.1.50_1.0.1) Frozen
Does everyone remember this one:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1333866
where BASIC > ReadySHARE > Safely Remove USB Device leads to a pinkish
"403 Forbidden" error page?
V1.0.1.54_1.0.1 apparently did nothing about that one, either.
