DM200 and D-link 2740B
Hi. I have just set up a DM200 modem (Non-WiFi) connecting to a D-link 2740B wireless router in bridge mode.
I have disabled the DHCP on the Dlink.
Everything previously connected to the Dlink when it was the modem-router still works and all wireless connectivity is active.
Once this is setup, I can no longer access the Dlink through a web browser over the ethernet and there is no firewall options available on the DM200.
A friend was trying to tell me that i hade to give the Dlink the DM200's IP or something for the DHCP to work. All my attempts at changing IP's have locked out both the DM200 and Dlink, so that I have to reset both devices and start from scratch.
So my question is, have I set this up right? and is it secure?
Thanks

Why? What are you trying to do? The only "2740B" I could find was a
DSL-2740B. What does the DM200 get you that the DSL-2740B (which
Revision?) didn't do by itself? Why "bridge mode"? Isn't the DSL-2740B
router generally more capable than the router in the DM200? What,
exactly, does "connecting" mean? Which port of which device connects to
which port on the other device?
> So my question is, have I set this up right?
It's hard to tell. If it doesn't work, then I'd say that it's not
set up correctly.
> and is it secure?
If it doesn't work at all, then it may be perfectly secure.

Re: DM200 and D-link 2740B
Thanks for the reply. I'll give you some addtional info.
I live in Austrlia. I have just connected to the NBN which is a "High Speed" internet service and requires a VDSL modem. As you probably are aware the Dlink is only capable upto ADSL +2. The DM200 is a non-wifi modem-router with 1 ethernet port in the rear. Prior to connecting to the NBN I was on an ADSL +2 plan and was using the Dlink for that purpose. After researching my options, the cheapest was buying the DM200 and bridging it to the Dlink, using the Dlink as a wifi router to my wifi devices.
The phone line is connected to the RJ-11 port on the DM200. The single RJ-45 LAN port on the DM200 is connected via an ethernet cable to the first RJ-45 LAN port on the Dlink. My laptop is connected wirelessly but my main PC is connected by CAT6 cabling to LAN port 2 on the Dlink. Port 3 is connected to an EOP device and port 4 is empty. All other wireless devices are connected to the Dlink.
As previously explained everything works but I'm not sure if it is setup correctly and secure as there is no firewall options on the DM200 and I haven't changed any of the default settings in the DM200, like changing to modem only mode or changed any IP configs. I just wanna make sure I haven't left any holes in the security side of things by not setting things up right or run into connectivity issues down the track.
Cheers

There are plenty of messages around here about connecting to NBN, along with many tales of woe.
Have you searched around here for NBN? It is such a regular that Netgear should set up a separate forum.
The issue of connecting that phone is a common theme.
Did you find this?

(By the way, not all NBN is VDSL, which is a part of the problem. It has a mix of different flavours of FTTN and FTTP, terms that you can safely ignore as you are probably on VDSL.)

Re: DM200 and D-link 2740B
Hi. My queary really has nothing to do with the NBN other then it required me to get a VDSL capable modem (yes my service requires VDSL and yes I can connect to my ISP with it). I have not had any connection issues to the NBN network so I don't really get why you replyed to my issue?
I'm not being rude but are you an AI bot that has picked up the word NBN? Because thats what it seems like.
This is a technical queary to check if I have actually set my hardware up correctly. Just becuase it is working doesn't mean its correct.
Thanks

I realise that. But I would not be convinced that you have nothing to learn from the experiences of other NBN users. That's why I suggested checking the configuration that other users have got working. From those message, some users find that NBN does require some tweaks.
Then again, if everything is working fine, your query won't mean much to most people. The main point of this place is really to help people fix problems and perhaps to optimise things that bug them, like wifi speeds.
As you will see from the other responses to your message, it really isn't clear what you are asking for.

Thanks for the reply.
