I need to CAP speeds
Hello,
I already have D6000 installed. with TPG NBN plan. I have been getting drop outs consistently, every day. Especially when uploading files to my Google Drive.
TPG NBN team told me: I need to set maximum DOWNLOAD speeds of 11Mbps , and maximum UPLOAD speads of 900kbs ( kbs? is that right?) . They said this will stop the drop outs. I find a related article on Netgear support pages here. But it says this:
"The D6000 was designed by default not to allow WMM to be disabled. The WMM options can only be disabled if both 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz WiFi mode is set to Up to 54 Mbps. Just as a tip going forward the WMM should not be disabled on 5GHz at all especially if 802.11ac is used it will impact connection performance. WMM is required to be enabled for 5Ghz to get optimum speeds. With this model there isnt any other Qos options. "
So, I need to know if this is right. Can I, or CAN'T I set downloand and upload speed caps/limits on my D6000? If I can, please provide step by step instructions.
Thank you.
Craig.

Re: I need to CAP speeds
AFAICT, the D6000 does not have the capability to cap the speed of the Internet link. In spite of this, it is not your responsibility to limit your own link. You especially wouldn't want to do that if you are paying for faster speeds! If you are getting drop outs, then the signal quality on your DSL line could be bad. It would be TPG's responsibility to diagnose and fix any wiring or equipment issues up to the entry point to your residence. You should insist that they check the line quality, sending a technician out, if necessary. You may need to share the ADSL line statistics as seen by your D6000 with TPG. You can find them by clicking on Show Statistics on the Advanced home screen of the router.
The other possibility is that the D6000 itself is bad. It's been known to happen. But first get any ADSL line issues squared away. If 11 Mbps is all your line can handle, then you should downgrade to the 12 Mbps plan. TPG will then take care of limiting the speeds on their end.
