NETGEAR D6400 Cannot update from 1.0.0.74 to newer versions

Hello,

I can't update the firmware of my D6400. I tried manually uploading the file (for the latest 1.0.0.114 and also for 1.0.0.80 as a gradual update), also tried tftp, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

The loading starts, but then it interrupts and nothing happens.

Thank you

what error does tftp give you when you try?

Are you trying over a hardwired connection?

Have you tried a different pc/laptop?

did you try downgrading a version (in case its a version issue) and then upgrading?

Re: NETGEAR D6400 Cannot update from 1.0.0.74 to newer versions

Hello,

When doing tftp, the connection seems to be interrupted for some reason, however I can still use internet without any issue.

I guess I can give you a screenshot later to show you.

I'm trying with a hardwired connection yes, I haven't tried with other computers since I heard that updating over wifi was not recommended, but I can do that!

I tried downgrading as well, but did not work..

Not so much a website. It is on your  modem/router. Hence the graphical user interface (GUI) tag.

If you can get into that, TFTP should not be necessary.

What errors do you get when you try this?

Comments like "didn't work" provide no diagnostic information. There's usually some sort of error message that helps us to home in on the cause of the problem.

I assume that you unzipped the firmware. Believe or not we see a trickle of people here who somehow missed that vital step.

Re: NETGEAR D6400 Cannot update from 1.0.0.74 to newer versions

Hello,

I did unzip the file, followed the steps multiple times, but the file upload just stops at 1/4 of the loading.

This is the error I get (I translated it to English)
The page at the address http://192.168.0.1/upgrade_check.cgi?id=8a59908b322d4a178b426d6800e6d59ef8dd089e0a84761ad8c9922e4c65... may be temporarily unavailable or it has been permanently moved to a new address.

Are you following these instructions?

Make sure that the unzipped file is somewhere that you can get at it easily. Try moving it to somewhere else on the PC.

Re: NETGEAR D6400 Cannot update from 1.0.0.74 to newer versions

Try an intermediate version.

74 to 114 is a huge leap. There have been times when the changes are so severe that  the hardware can;t take it.

I have had a D6400 since they came out. I can't remember if there were any big jumps like that, but there is no harm in trying.

Go for something in the middle.

Hello,

Thanks. However, yes I followed those instructions, as I have already mentioned. Also already said in the first post that I tried gradual updates too.
