Rather that some modems have the required chipset but have not have themprogrammed or enabled by the manufacturer.
There may be some modems with compatible chipsets that firmware can change. But there are plenty from Netgear and other brands with chipsets that cannot change. The D7800 is one of them.

In closing before you buy a new modem check the manufacturers website for firmware
updates.
That is probably why @markhershberger turned up here. The D7800 has the wrong chipset.
